What's up with the center differential

IMO relieves stress on the cvd's and provides for smoother acceleration rather than popping wheelies. That's based on my experience. I removed it from my e revo because it decreased speed significantly

Ige is spot on, however I only saw a 2mph decrease in speed.
I considered that fair trade... I was popping u joints every pull of the trigger before installation.

the front and rear diffs allow the two front wheels or the two wheels to spin at differnt speeds. the center allows the front and rear diffs to turn at separate speeds. so when you do hard launches the car will hunch back and take the load off the front wheels, they will ballon up.
i wouldn't suggest it for a basher but for a racer maybe.

That's interesting. I don't really want a center diff, but i'm thinking that if i put some 500k oil inside it will work almost as locked but with some protection for driveshafts. What do you think??

(I'm using my mSummit for trail riding and climbing 80% of the time)

500k might be too much... but there is only one way to find out really... try it! lol
You are thinking along the right track, though. I have 50k in mine... going to step it up to 100k once the oil gets here.

I'm going with 100k rear and 60k front. 100k is noticeable hard but is far from a true lock. I'm ussing my mSummit for serious offroading (did you see my "pink project summit" video?) so heavy oil is ok for me.

Anyone know if the summit takes the same center diff as the merv and the slash?

Yes.
They all have the same transmission.
They actually share 90% of the same parts.
