Lightbulb Something to keep the rocks out.

So I went to a hobby (craft) store today and picked up a sheet of plastic mesh. I installed some over the ESC fan and the motor cooling duct. I think it will help to keep most of the rocks out. Let me know what y'all think.

after spending some time picking pebbles out of my fan, looks like a good idea to me. the mesh might restrict some airflow though, but doubt it would be enough to matter.

Yeah it may restrict some, but better than having a rock jam the fan and keep it from turning.

I am not sure if the car sucks up many rocks through the motor cooling vent. i think a lot of them are sprayed from the tires. it should be interesting to see if you find many pebbles accumulating inside the the vent screen after a run.

I think you're right, but I wanted to see if rocks build up like you said. I'll make sure to report my findings.

If there were a dome shaped one for the ESC it would be even better that way nothing could even lay on top and work its way in. Not sure the size of that opening but at one time when I worked in a hardware store I remember dome shaped faucet aerator screens and they were stainless or brass??

    Nice job by the way!

Good looking mesh, I'd really like an outerwears to protect the ESC.... otherwise the rocks don't really bother me.

I think its funny shaking the car out after a run.

Thanks guys. One thing that concerns me is rocks and debris getting into the gears. My Rustler isn't a concern because if anything got in there it would easily evacuate out because there is nothing to hold anything in. I'm just uneasy about the xo-1.

Well they're mod 1 gears man, thats a pretty durable gearset. If you've got a rusty, do you run 32 pitch gears with no cover? Thats how I run my Slash and its pretty good.

I haven't checked every post, but has anyone stripped a spur yet? I don't have much mileage on mine yet, but I don't think I've read of anyone stripping a spur yet either.

Its the cooling vent. I did a mesh mod 2 weeks ago and it has solved this problem for me. I put my mesh at the bottom of the vent . About 1" from the underside of the car up the duck.

I have mod 1 gears on my rustler and there really is nothing around them that may trap rocks. The XO-1 is a different story. I might not ever have any issues with the gears but its still a concern.

LOL!!! My car was making a funny noise after my first test run with the XL2 ESC. I thought i striped or broke something and took me forever to find the problem...

Small rock on the spur gear!!!!
