Question Vegetable Shock Oil / Diff Oil :)

Alright, so can you use vegetable oil to fill the shocks with and if you can, what weight do you think it would be similar to?

Also do I need to buy diff oil or can I use vegetable oil in there as well?

lol give me some serious answers please, thanks .

You can certainly use it, a lot of people do... the issue isn't in what weight it is, but that it eats away at the seals eventually. It's not a synthetic and thus it's not designed to work with the rubbers and plastics and without getting in to the chemistry of it... it's a bad idea if you have access to the $3 correct oil. It will cost more to replace shocks in a year or 6 months or 2 months depending on how you drive it. The only benefit to doing it is that you usually already have some around the house.

It's really as silly as asking, "to make my shock oil thicker, can I just put molasses in there?" Yes you can and yes it will work, but... *shrugs

you can get new seals for the shocks but check your shock shafts for scaring or burs first as they can cut the seals and make putting in new one's pointless.
