You could mount a venom temp sensor onboard along with buying a decent IR gun.

I would find another way to mount that XL, your motor wires are hanging out the side the body.

I didn't know they made a fan that fits the "BIG BLOCK" cool. Is your air duct blocked off or something?

I think thats enough wire to tie my shoes.

U may want to remove the cover from the fan and move it away from the cooling duct. Thats where all of ur cooling effect is coming from. The fan also cools when the car sitting stationary. Always take the temp from the hottest spot (back of the can). Any gun will work. Most hobby shops will have a favorite model.

So when u gonna give us an 8s vid?!?!?! Im drooling over here.

I picked up a harbor freight special for my temp gun, not much money but seems to be accurate within about 1 degree. I have an extra xl2 on the shelf, looks like a great idea since I would also like to use my 4pks.

I must say your hobby shop stocks much better goodies then mine, I would need to order 75% of that stuff. If I order it myself it takes a couple of days, through my hobby shop almost 2 weeks and I have the privilege of paying at or above MSRP.

Well the XL 2 ESC went up in flames tonight. LoL

You guys said to keep an eye on the motor temp and I did but didn't check the ESC temp and it burnt up

The battery and motor is fine

No one can explain why the ESC went before the motor

    It's a lot faster with 8S

Sorry no video I was making passes checking the temp on the motor which was about 120f-128f. Tuning the car to go straight.

I made one more pass and the car stopped about 200ft from me I walked over and when I was about 10ft it went up in flames.

The ESC should of never burnt up like it did.. I'm very happy the motor and battery did't get damage..

My buddy XL V2 went up in flames 2 weeks ago in his baja out there were be run also.

The car pick's up the front end when you get on the throttle, Love it. I can't wait to get back another XL 2

Apparently castle has been having issues with the XL and xl2. Not sure exactly what the issue is but they recalled the XL. They were supposed to have everything ironed out with the xl2.

Shrug, flipping the batteries and esc would allow much shorter wires. Where are you going to mount a gps?

I am amazed that esc caught on fire. It's supposed to push around a 20+ pound baja no problem! Ask castle if they can throw in a fire suppression sytem for your car with the replacement.

Squirrelrod has had the same issue but with the stock ESC... it went from "cool" to "fire" in no time !!!

This video has been removed due to a rule violation ("adult beverage" clearly visible and identifiable in video footage). "Traxxas encourages community members to be drug, alcohol, and tobacco free."

Wow... sorry to hear what happened. Is it just because you're on 8s?
My XL2 came in today and hopefully I'll have it installed soon. can i run on 6s without having to worry about ESC temperature?

They fixed the issues with the XL 2 which is different from the XL V2..

So you need too look for XL 2... NOT XL-V2 there different.

Your going to have to look they seem kinda hard to get..
    I'm a little confused because i didn't know there was an XL-V2.

I ordered an ESC on ebay and it came in today.
    Mamba XL ESC Version 2

Mine shows XL2 on the ESC but i looked up the UPC # on the box and found this.
    UPC: 0855773002955
    Mamba XL Extreme ESC V2
    http://toys.pricegrabber.com/r-c-rob...931350680.html

Looked at Castle website and found the part number on the Mamba XL2
    Part # 010-0081-01
    http://www.castlecreations.com/products/mamba_xl2.html
    and found this
    Mamba XL 34V Extreme VS2
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LNBRBB

    See where i got lost?
I just wanted to know if i got the newest one. The Mamba XL2

Ran it maybe 10min or less I was keeping an eye on the motor temp never looked at the temp on the ESC.

After that one burned up I got disappointed and did't the one with 6S.

I sent back the stock ESC and the XL 2 to CC today. My new one that I ordered from them will be here thursday,,

I vented the back of the body. This was my new body with is far from new now..I Think this will keep the car more stable and keep everything inside cooler..

Any 2 motor wires... doesn't matter which 2.

Also... the last thing I need in this car is more power... but these XL's sure do look cool. Makes me want to get one when I know I have no business getting one....

No reverse huh? Have you done the usual routine, and calibrated first?

You should be able to link that ESC, it might have a forward only mode. Also, are you sure the ESC thinks its going forward, most CC ESC's will display a green light on throttle and red on brake/reverse.... although I gotta admit I've never used a XL personally.

You can do it with your field link car if you have one.

Make sure the trims are good on your radio. What radio are you using?

Hmmm on the smaller models you can do simple settings through the radio alone... Check out CC's site, they should have directions on how to do it.

You'll be counting a lot of beeps....

Well I just got done getting my cars back together.

Both cars had there ESC replaced.

    First one 6S

Replace the ESC with a Mamba Monster, Added a Castle Cap Pack in addition to the cap pack that come stock with the XO-1 ESC.

Changed the gear to 24/54. I want it to be fast off the line.

    Second one 8S

Replaced the fried XL2 Also added a Cap Pack to it. Moved the location off the ESC to the side of the car.

Changed the gears to 28/54. Those are the pinion that I have right now I have to get some different one's..

This car seems like it will be very fast. I will run them both tomorrow night at the drag races and keep a close eye on Temp on the ESC/Motor/Battery..

Which motor fan is that? My 1/8 CC blower won't fit. Did you trim it or anything?

ponie he's running the 1/8 1515 sized (Small Block?) 2200kv(at 77,000 rpm). There is no cc fan that fits the 1717 BIG BLOCK.

Racksteris I bet your getting tired of packing that Rx box and rewiring your XO-1's by now. They are not the easiest rc to wire. I ended up hacking my front lipo tray so it will slide out without loosening the center bearing post thingy.

I also hacked my rx box lid so I can remove it completely without the antenna in the way. I hate the rx box hinged door, it has that stiff voltage sensor resistor that lands right at the hinge point. My resistor lead has broken due to repeated access to the rx. All the room in the world to mount a rx box but they cramed it up under the center strap for some reason.
