Ahhh Pave that looks sweet! You can really see how low this chassis sets now, I like the stance and the overall look

Great paint, nice looking metallic throughout! Are you ready to build another one now LOL You are keeping me well motivated but I am on a slower path to completion but back-ordered Anza parts are in the mail now!

Thanks guys. I honestly see a round 2 in store for this truck. I wish it was darker. Its a little too bright and cheery for me. I have a different idea now I think ill try out in the near future. Similar design with different colours. For now, this body will do just fine though. At least ill be able to see where it is at night right. hehe.

So,the dark side of you finally comes out!!!!
Great paint job by the way.

But you make a good point about seeing the vehicle. I always paint my RC vehicles bright colors, like a fluorescent orange/yellow/white fade. I know, not very creative, but it is very easy to see when racing.

Ive never had this problem before but it could just be different parts.

I can say this, I wouldn't hesitate to use those ANZA castors on other trucks. They are sweet. Small, but strong and I really like the way the link mounts on the top. The ANZA pin kit is also nice. It appears maybe the pins are a hair longer than they need to be... but that could be on purpose so if you tighten the lock nut all the way it doesnt pinch the arms. Either way, for the money they are a great buy.

I find it interesting how important those carbon fibre side wings appear to be to the stiffness of the chassis. At first I thought maybe they were just for looks or to give you a place to mount your electronics. But after installing them and fiddling with this truck for a week I can see now that they way they are mounted and designed they are an integral part of this chassis strength. at first glance it might seem like the chassis could be weak because its so flat. But the way the side rails are lifted of the aluminum chassis and connected to the rear bulkhead really creates a "boxed" style setup. Its very very stiff. I think it could survive a ton of abuse.
Second time I purchased a STRC bulk, and protrac arms, with STRC lock pins. (same set-up, second vehicle on rusty) The arms were tight also. The arms werent tight around the bulkhead, They were tight in the holes. I ever so carefully dremeled out the inside of the holes, super carefully so I wouldnt get slop, by running the very slim dremel bit in a quick 360 degrees around the inside of the hole, than checking for fit after each pass. That fixed the issue, but i know what u mean. The first set-up of Protrac arms, on STRC bulk, was actually more sloppy than it was loose, with stock pins (#2640) and required spacers. Than adding STRC pins, elimated this issue. Second time around, it was too tight. Go fiqure.

REAL nice set-up though. Exactly as im lookin to do on my next build in regards to the hardware to go hit the Track. Protrac + Anza = . That thing would/will skool on the track for sure. Love the body too. Great job.

I was looking at the truck with a friend yesterday and realized, this is about as non traxxas as a traxxas vehicle can get.

The ONLY parts on this truck that are actually traxxas parts are the top shaft gear, the idler gear, internal diff gears and the rear drive shafts, though the driveshafts are from a 4X4 slash, not a 2X4. The rest of the truck is aftermarket stuff. Still... aside from the drive shafts, I don't believe there are any aftermarket replacement diff gears, idlers or top gears... if anyone knows of them id buy them just to say I had fewer stock parts. Hehe.

So what do you think Pave? Will this be a tough truck to see take a tumble? I know its not gonna happen often but we tend to push the limits. Do you see any points of interest that you wonder about? Like rigidity, functionality, weak points in general? Turned out awesome! Love the paint too. This chassis design surely has my interest, if I race a 2wd any time soon, lobe building an ANZA. Thanks foe sharing Pave, I looking forward to your reviews and vids later when the snow is clear.

    FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

My STRC top shaft and SC10 slipper setup has arrived. I can no finish the truck. YESSSSSS.

I did order an STRC pin kit this weekend as I think it will fit better with the rear inner arm mounts now that I'm not going to use the rear arm lock plate. But I can swap that later on. Ill have the truck done later on this evening I hope. Have a showing on my house this afternoon so I have to do some cleaning and polishing. But hopefully ill get time to work on this thing and get some final pics up.

Got the transmission all built and installed. Im super pumped about the being done. Ive done a little photo write up on the transmission build I was going to post separately. But here is the completed truck... missing only driveshafts. I didn't have time at lunch to get them installed but hopefully will get them on tonight. I got the rear bumper all mounted up properly as well. The last step of this whole build will be to go through and trouble shoot any problem areas like the front arm sticking and other little things... then glue the tires and put a few more stickers on the body. Of course, last step is to test the electronics end get everything set correctly. For now, here it is with the transmission installed.

FINALLY got out and ran this truck. Man, its really nice. Unfortunately the only place I had to run it was a really DIRTY parking lot... probably 1/4 of winter road dirt on top of pavement. I didn't want to ruin my race tires so I ran the street tires and man, NO traction. It was literally impossible to keep it straight.

Things I like, steering is sweet. Really tight turning radius. Transmission is SO quiet. Sounds nothing like a stock traxxas transmission. The slipper is sweet. Its SO smooth and oddly enough it seems like I have it adjusted perfectly first try. Ill play with it a bit more anyway, but for now its working. I think I need to gear the 4600 up a bit. Its pretty slow now.

The only pack I had to run was my big 8200 2s... its really heavy. I have the suspension setup as SOFT as possible, and the rear feels nearly perfect. But the front is REALLY stiff... I think I need to re-do the stock shocks with 40wt oil and possibly drop down to a softer spring. The steering, while it has great throw, doesnt centre the way id like. Sometimes it will stick about 2 trim clicks off of centre, then after the next corner it will be stuck the other way. Im not sure what this is a result of, weather its the servo saver isnt tight enough or if there is some sticking in the rest of the steering. Im running a Savox 1258 servo which has MORE than enough power and is well known to be a great centring servo... it should have enough power to re-centre the servo even if there is a bit of sticking in the steering.

Overall, I'm VERY impressed with how this truck reacts. Due to the poor traction I was getting I wasn't really able to get a GREAT feel for how it would handle on dry pavement where ill normally be running it. But I can tell the way it transitions from left to right and how it slides in the dirt that its very stable and well mannered. The front is way too tall right now so it tends to lift its inside front wheel alot... my blitz didn't do this nearly as much. But once I get the ride height balanced I think this will settle down alot. At that time I may also wind up a BIT of preload on the rear as its very soft now.

So theres my first impression and report after the first drive. Once my favourite parking lot dries up ill get out there and run it again. Its pretty clean right now so traction will be better.

Pave, very important to shim that top gear in so that there is very very little play. I blew out 3 top shaft bearings in the last 2 race days.

    With the strc top shaft:
Make sure to grease the shims.
I used (1) .1 and (1).05 shim on the back (pin side) of the top shaft, and (1) .1 shim on the slipper side. It may seem a little tight with no play, but if that top shaft moves left to right, that loose strc pin will distort the backside shim, and the pin will come out of the top gear, press against the inner race of the back bearing and shred it. You should not be able to pull the spur setup in and out of the trans. It felt a little tight to me, but I did not lose any time/lap, and motor temps did not rise today after shimming it in tight like that.

It worked fine for about 9 heats, then all of the sudden started having problems. I can see no damage on the top gear or pin, but could see where the gear moved over, and the pin left its imprint in the shim where it came out of the gear. I figure with your stock trans, there may be more or less room there for it to slide in and out compared to the alum trans, so you may be fine if the plastic trans is a little tighter on top.

I realize this will make anyone who knows me laugh. But, I'm seriously considering selling this truck. I ran it for about an hour tonight, then I ran my 1/8 onroad car and if given the choice... I think id choose to run the onroad car and theres really no reason to keep both.

Any thoughts on what this thing is worth without electronics, but exactly as you see it. I don't really have any spares other than a 2nd set of wheels, a couple new spurs and a set of slipper pads. Since every part of this truck was purchased brand new, theres no stock parts that were taken off.

Just thought you guys might be able to give me YOUR ideas on value of this roller as youve all seen it. Its been run for 1 hour in a paved parking lot. it was flipped one time so there are minor scratches on the top of the roof but of course, NO damage. Bumpers have a few minor scratches but thats it. Chassis still looks brand new.

I believe that there is someone out here that would love to have that custom built and finely detailed machine that maybe is not to comfortable to tackle a project like this themselves but would love to own one! You sure put good stuff in it Pave and it has been run and tested. Tally up the build sheet and add something for your time, you are likely to make someone very happy if you offer this up for grabs!

You guys are funny... thanks for the nice comments. I have absolutely no doubt ill loose my shirt on this thing. Just a quick tally of what I've spent and I'm WAY over the typical price for any modified SCT truck. But, I have to decide if I DO want to sell... I'm still going to tally everything for fun though. Ill post up the results.

FWIW... for my conditions. I hate these tires. They get great bite on smooth and clean pavement but as soon as the pavement gets old, worn or even the TINIEST bit dirt ALL grip goes away... and I'm talking ALL grip. The parking lot I drove it on has both kinds of surface. Half of it was repaved last summer. On that section the truck hooked up great and handle good too. As soon as I transitioned to the older surface the truck would just spin out EVERY time. No matter what did with the steering or throttle it would spin. When I was running my blitz with stock HPI tires (off road tread) they would hook up on both surfaces. Different, but still got traction. So, if I DO keep the truck... I'm going to put some HPI tires on it and see how they fair.

Unfortuantely there isnt. 2 hours is the closest track. If I sell my house and get a new one with a bit of land I plan to build a decent track. But that could be a long way off. Im not SET on selling it. Im just not sure its worth keeping now that this 1/8 car is working so well... except for the damage last night from hitting a light pole. But thats all irrelevant. Hehe.

The anza truck is amazing. Its so smooth and FAST with the 4600 in it. But I just found i had to MAKE myself stop driving the car to drive the truck. Im going to sleep on it for a few days and decide later.

Funny how they are worth more if you part them out then sell them as a functional vehicle! Don't feel bad Pave, I'm still waiting for replacement defective parts from FLM (sore subject with me right now) on the sealed diff and I went ahead and dropped another $100 for an airbrush to learn to paint LOL I guess I can split that cost up between a few of the vehicles and make it worth while Gotta have something else to challenge me on the rainy or snow days LOL!

I too have a set of those tires though I have not run them at all not even on my stock Slash. They do seem to be crowned to the center rib and may not have a very flat wide footprint but likely would give good speed runs and long life. I am anxious to come up with a neat sand set up to rooster up sand trails! Lots of ways to have fun.

Im glad someone got a laugh. Hehe.

Just did the math... hmmmm.... don't think this ones going in my favour.

In real prices... what i paid before any discounts I may or may not have received and NOT including ANY shipping the total is $744... just in parts. No electronics at all.

Kinda don't think anyones going to want a $750 2X4 slash roller. Hehe. Oh well. Guess ill just keep it. If I estimate discounts (not many, I didnt order alot from tower) and tack on a low estimate for shipping of all this I'm well over $800... thats one expensive slash eh.

My top shaft gear did start slipping. I decided not to run the truck anymore and parted it out before I fixed it but the trans is still sitting here complete and ill fix it then try to sell it with all the upgraded goodies.

If you decide to part out I am interested in a bunch of your parts. This is very similar to the way I am wanting to build my anza slash. I just ordered the chassis the other day. This is a very nice build I just read through the whole thing and your build of the transmission, very nice!!!
