Changing out servo...where does the wire go?

I am replacing the 2080 on my sons summit with a 5085. The wire from the 2080 to the waterproof box routes underneath the motor and then feeds through the watertight opening.

The problem is the space under the motor is tight and how do you pass the wire under there? Do you drop out the motor or do you remove the skid plate on the bottom?

Traxxas help said that there is room underneath the motor. Well.....there is not to push it under and through the watertight port on the box.

    What did y'all do?

um run it behind the motor and kind of kink the wire under the motor.

I am interested in this as well. My servo gives a freaking sound(i think the gears strip), so i just ordered one too.

Something that may help with this is to loosen the 4 screws that hold the transmission, this will allow the motor to move up some.

Only one bolt holds the motor in place.

    1) remove the ESC
    2) remove the motor
    3) remove the wire clamp
    4) remove the Rx Box
    5) install new servo
    6) route wire from servo to Rx (Ch1)
    7) install wire clamp -be sure that it is water tight
    8) pull slack into Rx box
    9) install Rx box
    10) install motor -use a piece of paper for proper mesh
    11) install ESC
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

Wow, thanks Jimmie, that's a lot of steps involved to replace the servo.

I also ordered the 2082 and will open the servo tonight to see if the gears strip. If so, instead of replace the entire servo, i might just have to replace the gears only.

Here is the old thread if anyone interested:

LOL, if you do that, you are a fool, there are NOT that many steps in replacing a servo! if you are having trouble, just loosen the transmission screws some, lift the motor, and slide it under there.

I figured it out. Remove the front shock mounting position and slide the wires sideways under the motor. This is of course after plugging it in the ESC and through the waterproof box.

I don't have Phillips screwdriver for the 4 screws holding the servo case. Anyone know if a PH000 screwdriver can do this job. I am about to order a set of Wiha Phillip screwdrivers from Amazon (Wiha 26199), but the smallest is the PH000, and not sure if it can do the job.
    Thanks.

Lowe's has a nice micro screwdriver. Search for "Kobalt 8-in-1 Multi Bit Screwdriver". The bits go inside of the handle.

Probably get deleted, but here is a link.

Just about any store you go to will have micro screwdrivers, from your lhs to walmart.

with mine, there's enough clearance near the front of the motor (close to the transmission) for the servo wire to pass under the motor, but that's possibly because of how far the motor is adjusted out with the 25t pinion

I got the Phillips screwdriver PH000 from Amazon today, open the 4 screws, and it's the top gear that stripped, so i only have to change this gear and the servo is good to go again.
I also replaced the RPM 73165 Axle Carrier on the front left since it broke quite awhile ago.
This is my first fix up for the RC, and it's kind of fun

There is plenty of room to slide the wire and harness underneath the motor. I changed a servo out in 4 mins out in the field today.
