I just got my rustler what the things I need to know and do before running it.

I just got my rustler, what the things I need to know and do before running it? I want to run it through water, sand and dirt and mud what do I need to know? Also I don't want to be forever replacing parts so tell me what I need to do after each run to keep it in working condition.

Check your slipper clutch setting (mine was shipped fully locked down) is about right and that all the nuts and screws are tight.

Buy an RPM front bumper and rear motor guard at the earliest opportunity as they will pay for themselves very quickly.

I second the RPM front bumper and motor guard! Put one on my sons Rustler as well as mine. My son is a better driver than me but it's saved us each from replacing front end parts several times already in the month that we've owned them!

Pick up some RPM caster blocks too, as the Traxxas parts are made of very hard plastic and snap if you hit a front tire on something. RPM makes their stuff out of softer plastic that bends and absorbs impacts a lot better. I have run mine into quite a bit and nothing has broken except the Traxxas caster blocks. The bumper is a good idea too. I have been fine with no motor gaurd. You may want to look at upgrading to bigger shocks because I have bent a few on my Slash.

I'm a big RPM fan but I would give definitely their caster blocks a miss. They're very bendy (even more than stock) which quickly results in bent king pins. The casters are one upgrade that must be aluminum.

NO RPM castor blocks. Only aluminum IMHO.

Traxxas Stampede, Rustler, RPM Front Bumper 81162 of Ebay
I live in Australia, (does anyone know why it doesn't come up with my location?)
and instead of a motor guard would a wheelie bar protect it.

I 100% agree on the RPM bumper and the Traxxas caster blocks. I will also add that you really should upgrade to Traxxas aluminum bearing carriers front and rear.

Do not be tempted to get STRC or Integy bearing carriers or caster blocks.

Yep, you've got it right. Don't know what you mean about "doesn't come up with my location." But get those parts.... the Traxxas wheelie bar has a motor guard with it, so you're good there.
