Newbie ordering parts for new Summit VXL

Son and I got a new Summit Vxl.

Love it, but already broke servo first day.

Placing a qualifying order with that big hobby store that (gotta be $150 for coupon and free shipping)

What should we get?

Already have upgraded batteries and charger.

(Please include Part# because we are total noobs!)

Thinking:

RPM front arms

Aluminum shock bodies

Shims for shimming

What about the drive axle? Heard several conflicting parts to order.

I would order the merv drive shafts, they last alot longer. I ordered the whole set, and changed out as they broke

after replacing all four drive shafts with 1/16 revo shafts and replacing my servo i havent broken anything else

so IMO, these are the minimum changes

the mini revo drive shafts are thinner but they are stronger (they are also cheaper)

part number on the mini revo driveshafts is 7151 - they fit without any mods


it is possible to use the steel cvds (7151X) but some mods are required on the rear arms

We the 85mg servo horn does not fit the traxxas steering linkage.

And the ******* 390 is backordered.

******* is best but the hitec servos will work - i use a 5085

get the losi mini crawler aluminum servo arm - it fits the hitec and the traxxas linkage

Should I oreder the 5085 or 5087?

It says the 5087 is a premium servo for high voltage. I run 9.9 v lifepo4 batteries.

The 5087 is only a $1 more.

i dont recall the 5087 being discussed and have no personal experience with it

many have the 5085 though

It really doesn't matter how high of voltage your batteries are (within ESC limits). The servo gets fed the same, no matter what.
