whats a good gearing for 2s lipo?

23/50 is what I use in my MERV.
You could probably go a little more aggressive due to the smaller tires.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.
The stock 28/45 seems fine with the body on. If you have good esc/motor-cooling airflow then the "speed pinion" 31/45 works too (and is a fair bit faster). I see zero heat issues running that gearing with the TRX heat sink and an open or vented top.

i am running 24/50 in my rally and its warm to the touch after a 2s 1500 pack , no where near as hot as it was with the stock gearing

Hey prototyp, your killing me with these photos you stick in with your posts. Your rally looks wicked cool. Can't wait to see a thread of "how to" from you for your underbody.
Sorry reod12x2 for going off topic.
Maddemaxx makes a good point... It's not a simple matter of the battery hooked up and more how and where you're running. If things heat up, you'll want to gear down.
I have a pretty wide-open and very fast T-shaped "course" I run. High speed = high airflow, and with only three slow corners, relatively little accelerating from low speeds.

this is the track i first ran it on and it was bone stock right out of the box...when it was done and i reached in to turn it off it was to hot to touch.
i believe these are geared way to high from the get go and that's why they are having trouble with them shutting down and burning up the esc.

Hot to the touch doesn't mean much.
160° is the electronic sweet spot for many RC's.
Anything above 140° is hot to the touch.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.
ok, it was to hot to touch...like holy $#@* hot
