    Noob question

I've seen in youtube people putting big block motor with 3m esc on their 1/16 scale truck. my question is, is it possible to run 380 size motor with the vlx3s esc?

Yes, it is... as long as it is a brushless 380.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Every motor/ESC combo requires temps to be monitored.

With that being said, you will have less heat issues with the 3S ESC than you would with the 3M ESC.

I think the 3m is underpowered for the 380 as it is... my buddy has the original 3m on his stock MERV, and it goes into thermal shutdown all the time, running 3s lipo or series NiMH's... my geared up Mini Summit however is running a 1/10th Castle Sidewinder, and it hardly warms up (the motor get's warm, but I think that's because of the 25/45 gearing). that being said, I think you'll be better off with the 3s. it'll handle the power better (better current flow since it's designed to handle the larger motors) so it wont heat up NEAR as much as the 3m does. the trick, I think, will be mounting it (Castle's at least have the flat sides and have little bit of a lower profile, although not waterproof like the 3s...)
