NEW diff lock "INSERTS" from Traxxas coming soon!

I just got the latest issue of RC Car Action (X01 on cover) and on page 39 they show NEW diff lock "INSERTS" for all of the 1/16 series models. They are going to be released from Traxxas soon I guess.

No need to play with Diff fluid in the rear, or gluing anything permanently anymore.

I will get this for my KB to help with drifting, but I plan on installing these in my Mini Summit to increase the crawling performance more like my 1/10 Summit.

Sounds great in a truck built for crawling, but full speed in a brushless truck? Many full sized e-revo and e-maxx owners will tell you how fast a "spool" will break in a brushless fed truck. It is possible that the less weight of a 1/16 truck will help it to survive.

If you're talking about the "spool" made by Traxxas, it will break for sure, was meant to be used by nitro trucks, not brushless trucks...

They will use stronger materials for these ones, I'm sure...

I went looking through the Traxxas website and found them. It is a NEW part for the 1/16 chassis's.

I found it under accessories for the 1/16 Summit Part # 7381 $3 a pair.

    http://traxxas.com/products/models/e...xl-accessories

Have not seen them anywhere else for sale yet.

You can also buy a one way setup for the front of a 1/16 which, as I understand it, is amazing for drifting. But probably not so good for crawling. There are other companies that make "lockers" for 1/16 traxxas trucks right now. I found them on e-bay.

Lol!! My uk site has said they are on order now it will be interesting to see the difference. Diff locked, slicks and a gyro. If I can't drift with all that installed I should just give up haha.

I am new to this RC lifestyle. Would like to make my summit have locking differentials. When I buy and installl the locking inserts do I need to fill back up with oil? If so, what weight would be recommended? Thanks for help.

I believe there wouldn't be any reason to put any oil in the differential. Once it is locked, there are no moving parts within it.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Just for maneuverability wise it maybe best to put the locker in the rear and keep fluid in the front diff- so as not to affect the turning radius too much.

Anyone has this in their truck yet?

i posted some info on this in the merv section of the forum. thought it might be usefull here coz it pretty much a summit upgrade.
    http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...10-Diff-locker
Cameron try the blu tack stuff i mention, or the equivalent depending where you are and they have that product. Locks diffs like no oil would, its removable, clean and oh so easy to use.
Dudes from the uk, im pretty shore you guys have blu tack yeah? stick that in your diffs instead of thick messy oil, and youll be climbing like no tomorrow! Its awesome!
btw i made diff locker like the above ones with spare inserts/spacers from all my hpi wheels, Couple cuts, shaves, shape here and there and presto<---if ya have appropriate tools.Doesnt have to look exactly like the traxxas ones, just as long as shape notches and stuff like that are in the right spot.
Also if you dare, if you open you diff and get the tiniest nuts (not the eating nuts, ones with thread : P) replace the three cone gears with nuts so then diffs internals are sized, then locked diff! i had 6mm nuts and there where too big, must be smaller. I must say since i put the blu tack in there, no need for any other product.

yeah cameron, poster hanging stuff, a type of goo that isnt sticky but sticks to things. With all the internal gears still in the diff, i pushed in enough in each side leaving a tiny concave, (just under flush) so the end caps can go back one. Must be a very tight fit, that it almost dosnt close up properly.
