    two ways i have found
1st-open the diff so you have the planet gears out degrease them then put them back in and fill up the diff with hot glue (i wouldnt do it this was as its permanent and if you dont like it you will have to replace the diff)

2nd-open the diff again and get rid of most of oil then put nitro fuel line in there pushing it in to it to lock the planet gears (i did this on a drift car and it worked well but there was not half as much power in the drift car as a slash has got)

i would up grade the drive shaft because you will be puting alot of stress on the stock ones

yes it is the little gears inside the diff amd as long as your not always on a high traction surface flat out then the shafts will be fine

I've done it JB welded the rear diff and it pushes way to hard real hard to control
With the JB weld if you dont like it you will have to rebuild a whole new diff to replace it

There is also a spool you can get on ebay for $20-$25

If you are looking to drift I would just fit PVC pipe over your tires

+1. This is an old school diff locking trick that people seem to have forgotten about. Very cheap, you can get it locally, it'se removable, and unlike glue/JB Weld/etc it doesn't throw your diff out of balance.
