    Which lipo??

    Hey guys,
I want to buy a 2s lipo for my truck and im going between the gens ace 5000 40c, and the Spc 5000 25c. Since they are almost the same price which one gives you the most preformance and which one lasts longer? Im running the vxl system in my 2wd slash and i know that both batteries will be enough for that system but i want to know your guys opinions on these batteries.
    Thanks,

i own spc and am 100% happy with them, mine are 3s but im looking at picking up a few of the 2s you are looking at as well. one plus is the higher discharge rating on the gens if you ever change your esc/motor down the road. I don't think you cant go wrong with the gens or spc. i have heard a lot of good things on the gens, not that i have ever owned any but for the ones that have on the fourm seem to like them.

I would buy SPC over Gens packs, not only for the power of SPC but to help a local business (Pennsylvania) and friend. SPC makes a very strong pack, they can blow the doors off many others with higher c and mah ratings.

now I don't have an SPC pack but I do have a gens ace 2s 40c 5000mah pack so I will not attempt to compare performance but I will compare them and theoretically: jang did a test between the spc 5200 and gens ace 5000 both 40c's and the gens ace had better voltage under load but the SPC more punch but it was close in the graphs meaning logically (correct me if I'm wrong) that the spc 25c will be no match under continuous load compared to a gens ace 40c as they are very similarly rated according to the test. However the pros to the spc is it's a little cheaper and doesn't require any soldering but it really depends on what power output you require as well (which motor and esc) because if you know you will never need a battery that pumps out more than say 100 amps e.g you've just bought a vxl system and have no need for anything else for sometime. The spc is for you but if you're like me who wants to learn a bit about soldering a traxxas connector and doesn't mind doing it and likes a bit of extra power (as I will probably upgrade my esc and motor to a more demanding one) the gens ace is the better option in that case and is exactly why I chose it over the spc as you're basically getting more power for the same price (even if no connector is included).
they're two amazing brands and it just depends on what you need from a lipo and what you want to do to your truck

Using a fixed load (like a bulb string) for pack testing/comparisons, penalizes the pack with the highest voltage. Accurate battery pack testing requires controlled ambient temperatures and consistent Amp loading.

You won't regret going SPC. I have several of them, along with a few other brands and have no desire to even look at other batteries anymore. I actually still have an SPC 6000 30C from when they first came out and that pack still performs like the first day! A little more beat-up as far as appearance goes, but runs like a champ. No idea how many cycles it's seen, but I can confidently say it's well into the hundreds.

Only other battery I will even consider at this point is SMC and that's only because SPC doesn't offer a 4S for my RC8BE.

Jakey, what does the ambient temps do when comparing batteries? (i know i'm a pain, but i just wanna' know stuff)

I think, and I'm simply applying what I've learned thus far, the ambient temp would have to be equal for each test because the sweet spot will bring out the best performance for each battery. This sweet spot could be different for each manufacturer but, in the test, you would want to find an even medium for them all. This temp would have to be maintained through out the test to have a "controlled environment". All factors would need to be exactly the same. If you didn't test under the same ambient temp, you could easily say, "the battery could have shown better results with a wormer/cooler temp. Cold lipo's don't perform as well as a warm lipo. If your gonna run in winter conditions, warm your battery before you head out if you want peek performance from the start.

I don't know if this is correct, I'm just taking a stab at it. Hope it isn't to far off lol.

Wow, I was prepared to read a lengthy correction about how far off I was. Glad to see I've retained some useful info while reading these threads.
