    Revo .26 comes to life...

Well I've had 4 tanks through running around nice and slow with the odd bit of speed but not 2nd gear. I must say it's very tight. Cold weather does not help. I wrapped head in foil to keep heat in. It would not idle tho . And my gap is 1mm when throttle closed. It konks out and It always at tdc when it konks and have to get screwdriver on flywheel to loosen off. All in all runs smooth and very tight. Roll on Wednesday as it's day off again and doms at school..

HAHA lol. you are right though. depending on if you broke it in right or not would affect the quality of the engine itself

Great you got it running! Can't wait to hear how it does after break in. I'm curious if you will be able to wheelie with the 17/36

Well I let it idle for 5 mins the other day. Manual states 10-20 mins at medium throttle but that's not how im doing it. Warmed it up with hairdryer, wrapped in foil as cold out, fired nice and easy, ran it at not even 1/4 throttle first tank. Done same for 2nd tank. Done same again for next two but bit more throttle. No high revs, nowhere near 2nd gear. Brought in sorted idle out and after oil etc. Wednesday will be pretty much the same for few more tanks. Engine so tight too. No sealing done, no leaks either.
Ideas and insight appreciated, all comments wether positive or not are taken on board.
Read so many diff ways on breaking in so taking time with it as no rush.

My Losi 454 was super tight also when new. Had to heat it up good to get it to turn over. I did the heat cycle method - that is the best way to do it, get the temp up with a sock or whatever, let it cool, repeat.

Andy are you checking the temps during the breaking? I've broke in plenty of Picco's, be ready to take it easy for awile, 5 tanks aint going to get it done man, one of the best things I new picco likes is to heat cycle it, make 200 to 220 with out having to lean the crap out of it, like by wrapping as you are doing then let it cool with the piston at BDC. Just wondering if you were checking temps. Good luck with it.

Hi Al, I've not been checking temps as have no temp gun but have been scouring net for a good deal, bought new batteries tho lol. I only done 5 tanks as went out for lunch and got back just before darkness fell and managed 1 tank. I will be taking my time with the picco, no rush on touching needles leaning out until I feel a difference in pinch as its so tight up there. LHS only has onboard gauges and not buying that. We have a probe for cooking somewhere so going to dig it out and see how high the reading goes on the hob as may make so until decent deal arises. Will end up spending before week is out I'm sure as never one to wait long.. Much to the mrs annoyance

Will use a sock next time as foil was not much cop. May pop down motorshop and look for heatwrap.. Either that or wait the winter out (not) ..

Also when engine stops it is TDC and I manually move with screwdriver on flywheel.. To stiff for hand. Is that ok?

Just put an offer in for flashpoint gun that's in guernsey just outside UK. If they refuse it then I guess I will have to travel if they refuse as I want one by Wednesday ..

As long as you move it to BDC to let it cool that's fine. Don't let it cool at TDC.

Dude that cheap on from TH will do the trick, it's made by duratax, I got mine at the local auto parts place, it's a pretty important tool to have in the bag. Good luck.

It sounds like you are doing everything fine, my .26 has drunk about half a gallon so far and it's still pretty stiff.

You also don't need to over lean it to change gear, you can adjust it on the transmission too. Also, have you changed gearing? That will affect 2nd gear too.

I've only done FOC on it and 17/36. Rest I will leave until it needs upgrading then I will go full robinsons transmission. Going to ring around later and find temp gun.

Your change point will now be different running 17/36 compared to stock gearing. If its not changing gear try loosening the adjuster screw in the tranny a little. I would try very small adjustments, like 1/16 of a turn at a time.

As Al said you will need a temp gun and try to run the truck with temps around 200F-220F during break in and be patient with your Picco (it will come to life almost near the gallon mark)

Temp gun ordered, cooking probe will do for Wednesday as seems accurate enough until it arrives. As stated before I'm in no rush to gun new picco as I want it to last a while.. Thanks all for your input, all appreciated and took onboard.. Roll on Wednesday when I get few more tanks through it driving in circles.

Get rid of the ezstart. They are not strong enough for that engine. Whack a pull start in that baby.

Yes^^^^^ if your Red Dot is still tight you will go thru pulllstarts very quickly. I'd get the roto asap. It makes life easy. Any roto for the 3.3 should work. I personally like the ones where the end of the wand is circular with two pins on opposite sides.. The hex style rotos, from my experience, strip over time. Home Depot and Lowes sell hand held non contact temp gun starting at $29.99. Don't forget to heat cycle and make sure the piston is bdc during the cool down cycle.

I am still on my original pull start and the plus is that I don't have to carry a drill to start the revo. Get it tuned and it will start easy every time.

I have to agree with revomikey. I never used anything on my JL RD .26 except the pullstart. It was a real drag at first, but once it loosened up and came alive the pullstart became more than adequate. I pull the fuel tubing from my exhaust and blow until I see the fuel reach the carb and then a hair more, put the tubing back on the exhaust and pull the cord. It starts first pull 90% of the time and second pull the rest of the time. It's a great little mill.

I do like the sound/look of the rota start, problem is ive spent near £300 on my revo latley and the mrs wont be impressed if i spend more with xmas coming up and wedding next year.. BUT as ive said before if i want something i usualy just get it cos i dont do much else ie drinking etc.. Just need clearance (ez gone) once broken in so i can get this rear exit RB manifold on and i have pull start already available. Been looking at rota start tho hehe.. Weather forcast is cloudy with outbreaks of sun this weekend so sunday/monday im getting this picco drinking fuel (i hope)..

Still not got temp gun yet, chap said would post it the other day so got mrs to email to say not recieved. Apparently his emails was down and hes posted today.. should of went and bought new one from LHS bleh. Probe will have to do this weekend.
soz long posts.. i waffle on

Get used to pumping cash into your revo. I bought mine when the 2.5 came out, It's on it's 4th engine, had the full 3.3 chassis upgrade, rpm where possible, servos, spektrum tx and rx, hubs, wheels, it's a hugely addictive hobby, I think I have spent well over £1500 by now on it. And I just bought an erbe and a merv. I love my family of revos.

It wouldnt be so bad if my TRX had seen over a gallon of fuel and that was a new revo.. Mind you i got a bargain as my mate builds them new from scratch for a hobby and i paid £200 all in at a loss to him just so we could bash as he has a revo, jatos, slayer and a few others...My T-Maxx engine was shot and i was going to put 3.3 in but got that offer i couldnt refuse. Hes currently building a 1/16 and 1/10 e-revo monster mamba. Needless to say my revo will have full works eventually as things break i will upgrade. Single servo steering next i think. Ive also got a new 5 cell hump pack laying around 1800mah which i may see if it fits where optidrive lived.
Where in Wales are you mate?

I lived at Cribbs Causeway before moving up here to Blackpool. Yes I agree not many badgers around bar my neighbour. Although we are invited to go to local rallycross track PRCC and race .
My ez start is shafted, owb was not in right position when I took it off and plastic case all split. I have a puppeteer to go on but backplate has only 3 holes for ez whereas pull needs 4. Would 3 screw be ok

My picco pullstart only uses 3 of the 4 holes so I would say yes it should be fine as long as it fits with no binding etc. what's a puppeteer anyway?

I cannot stop laughing, i was using iphone and auto correct strikes again.. badgers should be bashers and puppeteer should be pull start. Will see if i can correct it before times up.

Times up.. so no change made hehe

Carb fixed, tiny bead of rvt round edge of backplate then put back on, same with carb and on pinch bolt too. I hope this will sort it out. Engine is back in the box for 48 hours.

Ive seen tapatalk pop up sometimes but never installed it. Is it any good?

Tapatalk is good to use. I run a jailbroken iPhone so its free if you know where to look.

It doesn't load all the pics and rubbish that comes with the forum so it gives a far faster and more stable platform than safari.

Got it, cracking app. Jailbroken also. Couldn't reply on it tho. Do you think I would be able to try picco tomorrow or am I best leaving the rtv to dry for 48 hours?

Tommorow afternoon i will hopefully get revo going.. had to order new clutch as the spring snapped. Also got pullstart on now as ez was shafted and it turns nicley.. Carb sealed, backplate sealed, pinchbolt sealed. Can get this RB Manifold on too now aslong as i can find the gaskets and springs.
