    Motor Maintenance? Velineon 380

Hey is there any motor maintenance i should be doing to my brushed motor? Only reason i ask is ive sunk the thing so many times im thinking preventative maintenace could be the way to go in helping it last longer. preventative not drive down hill near the lake could go a long way too. Tho i have not seen a drop in performance anything i should be doing? Can i open these things like the good old brushed motors?

Unfortunately, the brushed 380 or 550 that come with these RTR's are considered throw away motors. There (as far as I know) is no way to open them up and perform maintenance.... about the only thing you can do is keep them clean and lubricated.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

are you referring to the brushless 380 or the brushed version ? casue you call it a Velineon 380, and the velineon's are brushless. either way is just spray them out with motor cleaner and lube the bearings/bushings. you can not take the brushed motors apart. well technically you can but its not worth the hassle.

oops i ment brushless. derr what a doofess i am, sorry man! velineon 380 brushed! carn was a long weekend over here heheheh
so maybe some lube where i see the shaft at the end of the can hey?

Must also add, FRIKEN awesome truck once you mod/tune it to your conditions. im up to eight 45min runs and no breakage! Lubed my wheel bearings after couple of sinks in water, but they where still pretty good still before i lubed them. also i havnt run the seal for the reciever box and still no water in there! Cant wait till my merv is together, built from scratch by me! should last longer than factory built!

I get 1 full hour run times with 2 batteries in parallel... so 45 minutes is not that far off.

4 batteries. 45 minute runs means two sets of batteries in parallel and thats bashing round. when its geared for slow driving/crawling, i get 25 minutes out of each battery easy!

so i was told by the the one hobby shop here that has half a clue that the 380 motor is like its bigger 1/10 brother, just bigger and that can be pulled apart and have new bearing put in it. He hadnt done it but he couldnt see why that wouldnt apply to the smaller 380 motors.
Anyone ever opend a 380 up????
I might open mine coz the bearings are flogged hard while im waiting on a new motor to arrive.

I have not read of anyone opening one up...

Since you are not going to be using this one, what are you going to be out if it doesn't work?

do you mean, going to do if it doesnt work? and if i did read it right, ill be out one motor.hehehe
its a throw away once the new motor comes so im thinking why not, couldnt hurt and if its just bearings ill save $30 on a new motor which i need coz the one on its way was for the the merv. drove it last night for 45 minutes, seamed to be no drama, just u can hear it when its rolling to a stop.

I just did it yesterday. It was really easy just remember not to lose the shims on the shaft.

Yeah it's really easy you just pull the screws and take the caps off. Then you just press the bearings right out and replace them.

diffs are shimmed. was doing big jumps, thought i flexed or cracked my diff housing again. i actually broke the bearing in the diff housing. Lucky i stoped driving coz i actually saved my diff! Old bearing many pieces! new bearings in!
havnt opend my motor up yet, i did lube the bearings from the out side and it feals almost like new.
