I havenít had much time to do any work on the project for a few weeks other than a new throttle linkage setup.

Uncle Sam decided he wanted to borrow (cough cough) some of my RC funds this year so I have been saving up to get the engines and pipes I want.
I’ve done a little to the rig but nothing major. I’m at a stand still until I get the engines to make sure of all measurements before cutting and drilling anymore.
I just sold a couple toys I had listed on CL today so now the Snook can play a little more

    Update:

Just letting you know I havenít forgotten about this build.
After a lot of decision making and saving $$ I have finally decided on engines, clutch setup and exhaust pipes.
Parts like spare rear tires, fuel tanks, air filters and other misc parts have arrived. 2 Novarossi PLUS 28-7/RT engines, headers, and 34mm Buku speed tuned komposite clutch kits were finally ordered this morning. I will order 2 ERCM side bleed truggy pipes once I mount the engines and make sure I have sufficient room for them.
That should be enough to keep me busy for a little while.
Itís been a slow process but it should start to come together a little quicker now that I pulled the trigger on the big ticket items.

75 CC Fuel tanks mounted and standoffs made for the large air filters. I need to order some air filter boots with a different angle other then 90į. 45į or 32į should work out well.
I wasnít sure of the air filter dimensions but they fit perfectly where I had planned.
Thereís plenty of room for any size pipe.

I hope to do some test runs without the body to work out any bugs by the end of June.
I will start with just a standard 2 speed to get a feel for how it handles and to keep it at a reasonable speed until the engines are fully broken in.
I won’t be trying for 100 until I have the body finished and the engines are ready to rock N roll.

I will take video of the test runs though.

Snook, any reason why you chose the novas over other higher rpm BBs like the hpi 5.9 for this build?

That engine can get more rpm than the TRX 3.3 or have less rpm?

    I was thinking:
Small engine=more rpm but less torque
Big engine=less rpm but more torque
    Is right my theory?

In general yes. Most SB engines will turn higher rpms than a BB engine but with less torque.

I was told by a top engine modifier who has a very nice engine dynamometer that those Novas will turn in the mid to upper 30K rpm range stock.
Modified they can turn around 40K+ rpms.

In order for me to be able to pull the gears needed for 100 mph I need big torque and big rpms.

I had the pleasant opportunity to speak with Uriah Murnan from Murnan Modified Motors Thursday evening when I picked up the engines and parts. I had the rig with me and he seamed confident the 2 engines could pull the weight of the rig and turn the rpms Iím looking for in stock form. If not, I will let him work some Murnan magic on some engines and try again.

Someone once said: Speed costs, how fast do you want to go?
Iíve kept all my receipts in a drawer but havenít totaled them up yet for fear of becoming nauseous. I know I have more than a Grover Cleveland in it so far. Once I hit 100mph I will total it all up, divide by the mph and know how much every mph cost me.

It’s not about the wager to me anymore. It’s turned into a duel between me, the machine and speed

I’d rather not talk engine specifics as they are not TRX engines. You can look up all the specs on their website.

I got most everything fitted to the chassis today but not without a few road bumps to overcome.
The engine mounts I wanted to use didnít fit the engine blocks. I wanted to use the biggest footprint mounts I had so that I could spread the chassis mounting locations over a larger surface area to help keep chassis flex minimized.
I was going to hold off on mounting the engines until I found or made a mount that would work like I wanted but decided to see if I could modify the mounts I had intended to use. After some carful measuring to figure out how to cut away some material and not weaken the mounts too much I machined the insides out in a step pattern. They fit the engine block like a glove now and hopefully the removal of material will not be a problem.

After fitting the mounts everything else was pretty much straight forward and fell into place almost like I had planned it.

    Engines with Buku clutches installed.

Adjustment of roto start for easy access.

One other reason I choose these engines was because of the roto start system. It is very adjustable and can be rotated to many different angles.

With the engines finally mounted to the chassis you can see the easy access to the roto start.

Now I can determine what degree the pipe attachment to the header connection needs to be to keep the stingers pointed in the right direction for each side and get the pipes on order.

I see a dim light at the end of the tunnel

Iíve been working on the throttle/brake linkage off and on for a couple months and have tried many different setups. The initial design worked but had a slight bind in the arc of the bellcrank just due to the laws of physics and the way I designed it. I could adjust the point of the bind in the arc of the bellcrank movement but could not totally make it disappear.

After many attempts I finally made a linkage that works very well with no binding at all.
Itís pretty ridged as it is but I intend to make an aluminum post that the bellcrank with bearings fits on that has a slightly larger diameter base. The drop down post off of the stock bellcrank and the arm that attaches that post to the throttle valve arm are pretty small but I used 7075 aluminum and they are very strong.

With 1 engine removed so you can see the linkage and bellcrank.

With both engines installed and throttle linkage connected. Everything has sufficient clearance that I shouldnt have to worry about any rubbing or binding.

I custom bent a piece of music wire to route the brake linkage.

Just need to work on a throttle return spring set up now and all the linkages will be complete.
