Superbeast.....or........SuperSnooker!
So now that the name is pretty much chosen. Back to the build. So what kind of transmitter/receiver setup are you going to be running on this?
All new electronics will be going in before any speed runs.
DX3S system, Savox digital servos with a Gyro.
No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.
Very nice. So whats the gyro for or what's it going to help do?
Ah I see. Makes sense.
I’ve been working on a couple safety features to keep this thing from running away and doing damage to it, or something else if the electronics were to fail.
I added a throttle return spring which simply hooks to an egg shaped washer I made on the bellcrank and then stretches around the engine block and hooks into the header.
I also added a safety brake spring; it can work separately of the throttle return spring and apply partial brake even if the servo horn were to come off the servo.
I also customized an old 2.5 receiver box to fit up front; I chopped down the height and added an off/on switch. A micro receiver and all the wires fit nicely inside with a little room left for some foam padding.
I will replace the toe link brace with a custom bent brace when I get some metal to work with.
Pipes are ordered and may be here next week with any luck.
No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.
And then is it go time?

I have a question, if the receiver picks up a stray signal, won't that render the throttle return spring useless?

COME ON SNOOK!!!! LETS SEE IT RUNING!!! THE WAIT IS KILLING ME!!![]()
Hippies. At least they save gas for real car nuts.
Exactly^^^
I added the safety brake spring just as an extra precaution in case there was a mechanical failure like the servo horn coming loose, or something in my linkage failing. A total loss of power would allow the throttle to return to idle and the brake would be applied about 1/2 way. The only problem I can foresee is the servo totally locking up and the springs could not rotate the horn.
I’m closer to running it, but not close enough to do any trial runs.
Engines haven’t seen any fuel yet. I will be breaking them in separately on a different platform.
Rig needs to be totally disassembled, (all aluminum polished for some glamour shots) and then re-assembled with all new bearings, locktite, etc.
At this point with so much invested I refuse to run it until I feel it is absolutely ready.
Looking at the July 4th holiday for a maiden run if everything goes according to plan.
No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.
Ok I get it, sorry I drive 'by the seat of my pants' most of the time lol.

I’ve searched the universe and could not find a battery box/tray that would fit exactly where I wanted it to, so I decided to try and make my own.
It came out pretty decent and after I polish the plastic a little it should look ok. It is solid as a rock and the stainless steel strap keeps a flat pack snug as a bug. 1 screw to remove and the battery is out in 10 seconds. I will try and add a charging port, but if it doesn’t work out I will just remove the plug from the receiver and charge it the old fashioned way.
If you can guess what I made the tray out of, I’ll let you drive the rig if your ever in the neighborhood

What motor is in that
T-MAXX 3.3
It's an old 2.5 Maxx battery box lid, upside down...?
Looks great!
With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound...
"Maxximum velocity"looks good Snook.
I dream of big block power...
A LiPo hard case maybe?
She's coming along well Snook, can't wait to see some vid of her laying down some rubber!
Keep up the awesome work.

Look out for the tree/crunch!
LiPo? Naw NITRO!!
I'm gonna guess plastic! Haha.

Theoretically, that is correct.![]()
No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.
It's obviously made of plastic.

the bottom battery box of a tx i'm gonna guess fits a flat rx pack fine last time i checked and easy to make a charge port too.

I'm so glad I decided to check out the Maxx forums. I came hoping to immerse myself in the Maxx "culture" because I hope to buy one soon. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this engineering masterpiece and I applaud your efforts. Snook, you are truly "The Man"
I just want to know if its ready yet? I read the whole thread and realllllllyyyyyy want to know.
Wow, judging by the fact that Snook Man hasn't posted here since the 16th, I guess that means that Traxxas's 'hit" finally caught up to him! LOL! COMOE ON SNOOK!!! LET'S GET SOME UPDATES!!
Hippies. At least they save gas for real car nuts.
Just buy an Xo-1, unless the challenge is to be dragger.
What about "100 proof" ? Thats what i'd name it.

I'm going to guess the battery tray is made from an automotive fuse box. I dont know if I can wait any longer to see a video of this thing running down the strip!
Come on already, we have no patience at all over here!!!!! hehe

"Who wants a Rod that you cant Mod?!"
The batteyr box I am unsure of but your hold down is definitely a feeler gauge
AWESOME man love it nice job!!!!!!!!!
Snook please post a video.

Due to a lot of travel involved work there’s not too much progress to report except I made a new rear shock tower and added a wing to the rear to add some downforce. Without having made the body yet I will need the downforce when doing the trial runs.
I also just got the news that the pipes were finished and ready to be shipped.
These pipes are the ERCM BB end bleed pipes with custom bent stingers to match the chassis layout and to route the exhaust out of the body. The stingers were intentionally made to be a little long so I can cut an angle on the ends to match the chassis profile. I will also be adding exhaust deflectors to angle up to give it a realistic drag car exhaust effect.
A big thanks goes out to Robin at ERCM, he put in a lot of time and effort with these so to get the angles and mounting locations just where I wanted them, and the pair being an exact mirror of each other for left/right mounting. Excellent customer service and an all around nice guy to talk shop with…
Not going to make the July 4th date for a trial run but good things come to those who wait (or at least that is what I’m told).
No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.
Man those pipes look good..sure would look muck better on the car

Those pipes looks awesome.
I can't wait for July 4th.
