    Question Center diff, rear breaks?

Thinking about getting a center diff. Reading about them, it looks like with the E-Revo, the center differential causes you to lose your rear brakes. To correct this you have to get a rear brake kit.

Will a center diff kit cause the Stampede to brake only in the front?

That is not the case on the Slash 4x4. You still have all 4 wheels.

Thanks El Sob. I ordered it, so we'll see how good it is. Do you have it on your Slash? If so, how do you like it?

When you add the center diff you are basically allowing the front and rear to freewheel different speeds. The whole point of the center diff is to allow the front and rears to run at different speeds. Basically if you try to pop a wheelie the fronts will spin faster, then the front will drop and you'll get traction again.

With regards to brakes, it's not getting rid of any. Basically, the motor is doing the braking so it will slow down the center diff. Depending on what's happening traction wise you'll get braking to front and rear but some wheels may slide more while others are freewheeling. The point is to make it more controlled.

Think about this, I run a Sidewinder SCT/3800 and it's got power to wheelie and do stoppies on command. With a center diff, as soon as the rear end starts to lift up, the front will slow down and it will make the rear drop back down. In the end, you'll have a more controlled truck and you will hopefully be happier.

I don't even know if there's a mechanical brake kit for the Stampede anyway so don't worry about it. Just install the diff and drive it. If you don't like it, pull it and swap back to stock. I think for rock crawling and bashing the stock may be better. For more precise handling and keeping the truck on the ground the center diff may be the way to go.
