Revo Tires and a-arms on Slayer Pro
Hi, I am thinking of tearing apart the drive train on my slayer pro and putting on the Revo a-arms and also putting on Revo Street Tires, I have read that I might have to change the gear ratio but is this a must if I still want a high top speed? Any suggestions welcome
The gear ratios are the same by my understanding. keep the ratio wide for speed. SG-35 and CB-18 I think is as wide as it gets and has the highest top speed.
Russ, what is SG-35 and CB-18?
SG is spur gear and CB is clutch bell. The number is how many teeth the gears have. Therefore, SG-35 is a spurgear with 35 teeth, and CB-18 is a clutch bell with 18 teeth.
The final drive gear inside the transmission is smaller in the Slayer due to the tire size. So take that into consideration when going with the gearing at the engine.
You can compare the gear ratio charts in both manuals(avail under downloads)
With the 3.3, you get the top speed on 25-33% fuel at around 16:1 for 2nd, along with around 25:1 for a decent 1st gear(still pretty tall for the truck), the shortest that a slayer can be geared is 18.75/13 being the stock tires are about 4.3 instead of the 6.3 of the revo. The slayer tires go 13.5" per rotation as opposed to the 20" per rotation of the Revo tires, so you need to gear down about 40% to get the same ratio including tires. You could use a smaller on-road tire, but if you want the big 3.8s off a revo, then you need to swap pretty much all other trans gears, or get a revo trans off of Ebay or somewhere else.
