ERBE cvd's & RPM arms :(

hi all i am very active on msuk forum this is my 1st time here really and wow what a wealth of information here!!!

there looks to be a LOT! of ERBE specialists here! so the question i want to know is has any one found out how to run the traxxas cvd driveshafts in conjunction with the RPM arms? as when run togeather the cvd's tend to fail due to the ammount of flex in the rpm arms? im still running stock arms which i hate and have wanted rpm arms since forever lol but im not going to run rpm if they will break my lovely cvd's

any help at all would be great guys

hello there! welcome to the fascinating world of te erbe...

so there are 2 solutions for you. either go for summit axles, or go for losi cvds with some modding on the carriers. easiest is summit, both are not cheap!

you will understand with time, no matter how much you spend, that the only solution for keeping your truck in one piece, is careful driving and nothin else!

hey fuzion mate, nice to meet you i like the sounds of the losi cvd's i also have a set of tekno hub carriers (not been used yet) the ones with the larger bearings if that will make things a bit easier?

Another option is to get the extended drive cups, I've just got mine the other day and have had no problems with the cvds so far (3-4 runs)

See the thing is everyone bashing style is different so its hard to say what will and will not work. For me I had to take the rpm arms off due to flexing. I was bending drive shafts every run. After many trial and error tests I figured out using stock arms with stock drive shafts upfront and cvds in the rear. This stock drive shafts in the front made those front end crashes absorb rather than bending. Arms are dirt cheap on eBay and replacement shafts. So in my opinion is to try different combinations out and see what suites your driving style best.

I run rpm tru trak rears and rpm arms up front with cvds. You need to ensure that the ball joints are as far into the arms as possible without binding. If you have tru traks on the rear get the extended cups. Mine don't pop out anymore but I do bend the shafts with big airs. They straighten out though.

not sure if i have other issues but ive bent 3 losi axles
not sure if its due to my rpm arms flexing but i only bend em when i hit the front wheels side on like hitting a fence

rears i have true tracks so they dont flex as much as the fronts

Yup, thats the fellas.

THey are amazing if you have the tru track rears as the hub takes out some of the flex so the cvds dont bend under extreme use, however i do bend the cvds on the front with regular rpm arms if it lands awkward on one wheel, the rpms have so much flex the cvds dont like it so give a little.

I dont mind taking the front cvds out to straighten them up every now and then but just bear that in mind.

How do you straighten yours, I use a vice and a little bit of elbow grease.

You need to ensure that the ball joints are as far into the arms as possible without binding.

This was the key issue for me. since i made sure the ball joints are tightend up as much as possible, i haven't had any issue with my cvds popping out.

The same way as you. I also stick the shaft in a drill and spin it for trueness before I refit. It still beats constantly broken stock shafts.

I bash and drive pretty hard with the truck whirling round and mostly landing on at least one wheel on impact :-)

and with 4s and 21/54 gearing its not extreme but pretty fast....

no matter what jump or insane landing I have made... I never had a bent CVD or a pop out

They are the ones (the long drive cups) so order safely :-)

I got tired of looking for the RPM stuff in both UK and Germany so I ordered from US...... even though its more expensive due to taxes where I live (denmark) but I have long forgotten the extra price..... The simplicity of the RPM arms..... and the way they handle.... would not be without them ever again :-)

As also mentioned, driving styles are different, and yes quite obvious, the long drivecup illiminates the risk of a pop out not a bend....bending comes from (and this is not meant in a bad manner to any RC driver) pounding the truck hard and accidents..we all like to push the truck --some ones in a while, some all the time..... and its in the pushing situations that things can go wrong and we replace parts :-) no truck can withstand a beating without something breaking once in a while no matter what solution we choose.... I got a little affraid of upgrading to RPM and CVDs from reading in the forum... nothing has happened so far .... one day it will..but I think its a robust setup . I dont drive my truck of extreme jumps so I cannot participate in that discussion, but I have tumbled my truck enough on both concrete and in forrests to hold my breath thinking..... goodbye truck including CVDs and nothing happened so far .... Except for snapping a lot of stock driveshafs, servos, spurgears, some pushrods and a few other things in my time

be careful all you guys with long cups, set the pillow balls right so that it doesnt pop out BUT also not having the cvd very far inside the cup, it will cause more damage than with short cups heh

I think you will be good with the long drive cups.... I even raised my pushrods again after installing the long drive cups...I like the ERBE lifted max :-)

i really cant wait to try the long drive cup set up with the rpm true track rear and rpm front its going to be xmas before i canafford the new make over for my e-revo, the bits i need like new chassis, rpm arms & tru track, new shell, single servo mod with bec, ali and titanium rockers, german motor mount/brace, new wheelie bar with blue ali wheels, yes there will be a blue theme going on lol , centre cvd i all ready have 2 pairs of driveshaft cvd's so thats all good , new wing and maybe tekno wing mount (with the rear brace mod) and then the revo will be one happy girl on xmas day! woo hoo! , ive only just gave my revo a huge make over couple weeks back and i want to do a new one all ready lool i love this hobby

this sucks even the rpm usa company does not ship to uk? where do all u uk peeps get your prm gear? i was loving picking out the list too

I feel your pain, I am in the uk too and rpm parts are scarce and pricey over here. I had rpm arms and a tru track rear sent from hong kong for £30 all in Inc postage. Flea bay is your friend. Modelsport uk is also good.

It's a pity that traxxas uk closed, parts were plentiful in the old days but since logic rc took over I seem to have to wait for everything. Bring back traxxas uk, those guys ruled. Still, not much help with rpm obviously.

It was eBay several months ago so no link I am sorry. Try a quick eBay search, I seem to remember paying for 2 items, front and back £10 each and £5 each for postage. It took about 3 weeks to arrive but well worth it.

As long as you use extended drive cups, with the push rods in the middle holes, the combo works great. You will occasionally bend one, but they can be easily straightened. If you are only bashing, slight bends won't matter. Go for it, you'll be glad you did. You would be amazed at the punishment I use to put my erevo through. They hold up.

As far as drive cups go I think if you get the RCM drive cups with 6mm bore, that they are 1mm longer than the long traxxas ones. Also been reading that they are super tough.
