Having a problem with my Tmaxx please help experts!!!

Hello, First off i want to say i am a huge newbie when it comes to RC cars. I bought a used T-maxx 2.5 last week. I had to take the whole thing apart and replace the spur gear and some trans parts before it would even run. Now it is running but doing something weird. When I drive it and I am at full throttle and I hit the brake to make a sharp turn the engine dies instantly. The only way i can make a turn is to pump the gas thru the turn. If it is not fully opened up tho i can make a turn just fine and it doesn't die It also will die after about a min of just idling. I read about how to set the carburetor back to factory settings, and think I got it back to how it should be, but i could be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. You said you set all the needles back to factory. Factory settings are break-in settings and are rich. I'd suggest searching for a tuning guide and study it. The issue where the engine dies instantly when hitting the brakes could be the idle screw not adjusted properly and allowing the carb to close completely when applying brakes. The gap should be around 1mm. Take off the air filter and look down the neck of the carb. The idle adjustment screw is on the opposite side of the carb from the throttle arm.
As far as the engine dying after a min of idle, mine would also. It'll load up and flood.

Ok ill have to look around for a tuning guide, because im pretty sure the truck is running to rich because it smokes bad out of the exhaust. i did mess with the idol screw thinking it was the set screw to remove the carb (doh) but i thought i had it back correctly but ill have to take off the air filter and find out.

When you do, turn the screw clockwise to increase the gap, and use the end of a paperclip as a 'feeler guage'. After you have it set, apply the brakes and make sure it doesn't close the gap.
Nitronaught, a member on the forum here, has a nice tuning thread. I'll see if I can find it.

There is also one in the Traxxas Engines section. It's stickied at the top.

yup im dumb, thats all it was. i opened my idol gap about a 1/4 turn and boom no more problem lol. One question tho with the pinch test. I pinch off the fuel line and it dies at exactly 4 seconds, do i need to lean the LSN just a bit or should i just leave it be?
