Do you need to buy a new engine to use a starter box

I want to use a starter box to start my jato.

I was told to get 4142R - Fly wheel for starter boxes...

Can i just leave on the pull start or do i need to buy a specific engine to use with starter boxes.

i don't think u need a new engine rather a new backplate that works with a bump start. they do not work with a pull start

The purpose of using a starter box is to reduce the fiction. That’s why your high performance motors doesn't have a pull start or any other starting device except a starter box. So keeping that pull start attached it not gain you any performance. There is a part for the TR 3.3 that gives you the back plate for a Starter box.
Speed is the rate of change of distance with time.

To answer your question, you do not need to buy any new parts to use a starter box. What Jclay and Speed-demon are saying is that, if you want to increase performance you can buy a new back plate.

That flywheel you mentioned will make good contact with the starter wheel. But I do not believe it is not entirely necessary, if my memory serves me correctly I did not buy a new flywheel and it worked just fine.

The traxxas back plate requires that you either cut/grind off the nub on the end of the crank shaft that the input shaft attaches to, or buy a new crank. The one I linked does not require that.

But like I said you don't really "need" to buy a back plate. You CAN run a starter box WITH a pull start still on.
