2s or 3s

I've been running for a while on the stock nimh and I'm about to buy some Lipo batteries. What do you suggest for both bashing and speed runs?

if using the stock motor and esc, 2s in parallel for increased run times, and a single 3s for speed runs

i got the 5700 bb in my merv and i have been running 3's parallel. is it better only to use one 3's at a time? im using boost 45c batteries and didnt know if it was enough power for the motor by using only one battery. i'm only doing speed runs.
