    MMM2 questions

    Hi,

Considering getting an MMM2 + 2200kV combo for a certain 6S project, but have a few questions first.

    1. How does it mount to the ESC tray? I'm not at all sure that the surface I'll be mounting it to can accommodate the Traxxas MMM mounting bracket, therefore I must look at alternatives. And I don't want to rely on double-sided tape alone.
    2. How easy is it to take the fan off?
    3. 2200kV is really a little bit too fast for 6S, I would prefer to use a 1800kV for this voltage, but unfortunately Castle doesn't make those. So I am guessing heat is a problem. The question is: just how much of a problem is it? How likely am I to burn the ESC running 6S? Does CC Blowe help at all?
    4. Is MMM2 compatible with MMM1 Castle Link?
    5. Any recommendations as to the best place to buy the combo from, that ships worldwide?

    Thanks.

    1. Mounts the same as MM1...post #127 is how I mounted mine in a rally. A piece of aluminium and servo tape on the underside to make it a tight fit.

    2. Never taken the fan but does not look difficult.
    3. I runs 6s with a 2200kV motor...no heat issues running 20/54 flat out.
    4. Yes
    5. eBay is where I got mine.

Woah 20/54? I was thinking about going 17/54 and thought it was pushing it, seeing as that max RPM would be close to 50k...

supplied gearing is 18/54, that would be a good place to start. Depending on driving style, tires, air temp, etc.....will determine your gearing...

But Mitch has losi diffs installed right? With those you lose 2-3 teeth on the pinion.

That's correct...I ran 20/54 on stock diffs too for along time before the Losi MOD, temps were not that much different in the hot Australian summer. I have tried a wide variety of gear combos with spurs from 65 to 54 and pinions from 21 to 17 and 20/54 does suit my driving style best with temps between 60 to 66*C on hard running.

As 87GN said ' Depending on driving style, tires, air temp, etc.....will determine your gearing... '

For some reason I really, really dislike pinions with non-prime number of teeth... So I'll try 17 first, and if that won't burn a hole through the chassis, will go up to 19

To mount the Esc Without the fan...
    1. take off the switch bracket
    2. unclip the fan assembly
    3. slide the fan out from the underside of the fan housing
    4. put the fan housing back on the esc
    5. remount the bracket and your done!
    Need more parts.

I don't think I'll have enough room to use the Traxxas MMM bracked on this new car, so I decided to go for a different approach. I'll be using Kyosho Zeal vibration absorption gel (the stuff is 5mm thick and is insanely sticky!) to attach the ESC to the ESC tray, and then secure it with a thick zip tie. Although the zip tie probably won't be necessary, considering the quality of Kyosho products, but it's always better to be safe than sorry

Glad you got it figured out...I may need to look at that gel myself. Thanks for sharing .
