    Question Driveshaft excessive play?

    Hey guys,

just got my first RC truck - the Slash 4x4 Ultimate.

Even though I'm a total noob, I find the driveshaft play quite excessive.
It just slides from one end of the driveshaft tunnell to another.
    Is this normal?

Yup mine is like that too. Hasn't caused any problems running the Mamba Monster system on 4s so its all good.

I've worried about this on mine as well. Any way to "fix" it so there isn't as much play? (mine is similar to the picture)....

I don't see why they just don't make the driveshaft just a wee bit longer.

Cause then you'd end up with a bent driveshaft regulary.
The chassis can bend hard on a landing after a jump.. if the shaft can't slide when the chassis is compressed, it will be rammed into one end of the driveline and will bend or break things in the diffs. You'll find the same i.e. on the e-revo, it also uses slider shafts in the center.
    Check i.e.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHUUJ...eature=related
I know those are not traxxas models and have aluminium bottom plates that don't compress, but you can see on the other parts just how much force applies during a landing or crash.

Is that an extended driveshaft cover?

Yes it is, and I think all the newer trucks come with the extended cover. Mine is only 3 months old and it had it in the box.

you are correct cubbies, the newer trucks do come with the extended driveshaft cover.. as for the opening on the front of the driveshaft, I simply wound electrical tape around until I found the best diameter at which to stop, this actually took a bit of time as I had to try to install it, and then remove a few turns of the tape until it was right. it works pretty well and is probably the easiest way to solve the problem.

On mine the shaft makes a lot of racket because of the play so i got some little black rubber o-rings from work (for free) and put two on the front side and one on the back and it still allows for the movement needed for the flex of the chassis but holds the shaft better to keep it from rattling
