550 Brushless Motor in 2WD Slash

I have seen many new 550 brushless motors popping up on the market. Are they really necessary for a 2WD Slash? I can see needing them for a 4WD due to all of the extra drivetrain, but what would it accomplish for a 2WD? Are there any advantages?

I was under the impression, that you can run 550motors in2wd, but they are really meant for 4wd.
But, You can run anything in anything if you really want to....LOL

Run whatever motor (or servo) you want. Just adjust your TX/ESC/driving style accordingly. If I can drive around with this motor in mine, a 550 should be no problem for you.

    What motor is that?

And a 550 motor should fit. The +10 on the size over the stock ones seems to only be length.

Yep. 36mm is a very common diameter for motors, most 540/550's are 36 around, meaning they'll fit in the Slash.

The one I run is 10 mm longer than a typical 540 size motor at 60mm. There are 72mm long motors also, although as you add length, you lower kv... (typically).

What kind modications you need to do, if you put 550 sized or 4-pole 540 motor to slash?
Those holes in engine are bigger thread than stock can do use..

550 motors use the same mounting holes as the stock motor, as it is also a 550 motor. The vxl motor is actually an oversized 540 motor so having a regular sized 550 brushless would probably not be much different in terms of power.

    No I disagree..
    Vxl is 2 pole
Most 550 motors are 4 pole

Do you have a count or a list of 2-pole vs 4-pole 550 motors? If so, is there also a break-down of sensored vs sensorless?
If you don't, it doesn't mean your observation and assertion about the greater number of 4-poles is wrong, but it is harder to prove.
