    3800kv SCT vs. 2400kv SCT

If the deals go through on my emaxx, I will be building a slash 4x4 from a roller and was wondering which would be better for 2s and 3s becasue I have 2 2s 40c 5000mah lipos and 1 3s 40c 5000mah lipos and a charger that can charge them in around an hour so I would like to be able to run for a long time without heat issues.

    Thanks,

Well I have both systems and feel that the 3800 runs awsome on 2c but wouldn't try 3s with a sidewinder in a 4wd. If you put the 3800 in with a MMP, it would run fine and fast i'm sure. As for the 2400, I love this combo. I have not run 2c with it but it screams on 3c! This truck is outrageous with the power and speed. Not a single table top or triple I can't nail at the tracks.

Both will make similar power on 2s

3800 will feel more responsive on 2s

If you plan to run the 3800 on 3s you will need to gear conservatively

MMP is a better option than the Sidewinder for 3s with the 3800

2400 will run cooler if geared for the same speed on 3s

I have both, and have ran both.

If you want to run 2c=3800 all the way. 3c= 2400kv.

If you run 2c on the 2400kv, you will loose HALF of the RPMs but you will maintain the torque. You can gear the snot out of it, but kinda a hassle.

Now the 3800 on 2c is amazing, 3s is pushing it. If you wanna race, 3800 all the way, Bash, 2400.

Now the ESC's... the SCT ESC that comes with the 3800kv is dog poo for 4x4. It gets HOT and you will burn it out. Not to mention you are limited to 2c. I personally have the MMP ESC and it is amazing. I have it on my Slash, RC8Be, CRT.5, SC104x4 and a SCRT10. The only down side is if you are running a high torque servo, the BEC in the MMP is underpowered so you will have to add a capacitor (about $3).

Just my 2 cents. As I was once on the other side of the learning curve and I have no one but my pocket to thank for the education.

    Sorry for the typos...stupid iPhone!

    3800 on 3s is amazing

For the record I couldn't even run 2s on the Sidewinder very well. My opinion is the sidewinder is garbage. Sell it and get a MMP or MMM.

Has been done and works well when geared correctly, Asheck on the forum has tested it

Adding an external bec will assist in keeping temps down and protect against internal bec failure

    Castle's reccomended gearing for 2s is 15/54 (35mph), probably a little conservative

Check your temps and if they are good gear up a little

They dont list gearing for 3s as its not a reccomended combo

I would think 45 mph on 3s (13/54) would be suitable

    Castle ccbec works well

have the 3800 on with MMM just to try, geared 18/54 was using 2s and runs very well. threw in a 3s battery and it was just wild, motor gets too hot in about 2-3 min of running.

Ok, I am going to try and work a deal out with this guy that offered me a slash 4x4 roller with new bearings and rebuilt shocks and diffs for my truck as a roller with some money on top.

Do I need teknos or mips? Or can I run revo 3.3 shafts without any mods except maybe cutting the driveshafts? Will they stand up to a mmp sct on 3s with 2.8 badlands?

I just traded my 3800kv for a 2400kv tonight. Both on 3s and geared to ~51-52MPH on a MMM, the 2400 doesn't seem that much faster in terms of acceleration. The 2400 does have a more torque but it isn't really "night and day" noticeable. I'm really impressed with the 3800kv in terms of it's overall performance and flexibility...I might have to buy a replacement

I hear ya. I have been reading and watching videos and that little 3800 sure can move. Just in your video alone I can see a huge difference when compared to my 2400 setup. I am for sure buying a back up motor. It seems to have more "pop" and be more snappier. I will just buy the combo and sell the esc from it.
