Battery question

I've got a question concerning lipo and nimh batteries.

Me and a friend both have slash 4x4's.
I'm about to go for Lipo's, as I currently use the stock nimh batteries, so for me 2S seems like a no brainer.
However, a friend of mine has got a team orion 9,6V 5100 MaH (8cell) rocket pack.
I've asked several people, and with mixed reactions:
How will a 2S lipo compete with this rocket pack?
Is it advisable for my friend to upgrade to 2S lipo, as he doesn't want to 'downgrade' his ride?

From what I know the Nimh will loose voltage quickly and keep draining where as a Lipo will hold a much more consistent voltage and then stop at the low voltage cutoff.

If the cars are geared the same the 8 cell nimh pack will be faster (until its voltage drops)

volts = speed

8 cell nimh pack - 9.6v nominal, 11.6v fully charged
2s lipo - 7.4v nominal, 8.4v fully charged

Currently have 3 (slash4x4)trucks and a PEDE 4x4 , we do alot of parking lot racing and have found.

The 7cell 3000mah nimh pack is indeed faster 5-10% for about 2 min then the 2s (5000mah) lipo's keep going and the nimh keeps getting slower and slower till dead, 15-20min. Kid switches up and same thing all along the 2s is running approx same. then within a min or 2 they both need batts. Exception is the youngest (4yrs) with PEDE he runs on Training mode, goes for ever

So this spring I uped the gearing to 14/54 in the lipo trucks and the kid running nimh is barelly faster and continues to get slower. He says the other day

"when can I start running LIPO's"
So ya the NIMH is slightly faster but FADES steadily .

Go with 2s Lipo's , 5000mah, 30c minimum

I'll definately be going for LIPO's, the NimH beiing slightly faster is good news for my friend, as he's short on cash at the moment.
