1/8 brushless combo on a budget

What is a good reasonably priced 1/8 brushless system that I could use in the slash 4x4? I want to upgrade the system as my velineon motor gets alarmingly hot, and I would like a motor that runs cooler. Another question, could I run a 1/8 motor with my stock esc?

    Thanks, Zane

What sort of budget are you talking about ?

What batteries are you planning to run ?

How fast do you want to go ?

You dont need a 1/8 motor to go fast

Stock ESC is not capable of running a 1/8 sized motor

Two options off the top of my head

Castle Mamba Monster / 2650kv motor combo - $240 or so
    Castlelink PC programmer - $25

    Toro 8 / ********* 150 ESC with programming card - $80
    Tenshock X802 2400kv motor - $100

Okay. Thank you. I was just thinking of upgrading because of how alarmingly hot my stock motor got on 2s lipo, and I would like to run 3s lipo. I will consider the Toro one. I also like to run on the beach/sand dunes so i want a very torquey motor.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-c-combo-m1.html I'm currently running that. It's a good combo, and very capable. Though the SCT 2400 is all that you will need, and it's just $30 more.

I just put in the MMM/2200 combo and couldn't be happier, ran 2 3s packs through it the other weekend at the beach (most WOT for a majority of each pack) back to back with no heat issues. I also have shroud on top.

I was looking to put it into a 1/8th buggy/truck next year but honestly the power it has now and how smooth it runs might make just beef up my Slash now. I did get the Tekno front and rear drive train kits so if you are upgrading the motor to 1/8th be aware that you will have to upgrade other parts.

I also put in a new motor mount and bearing adapter.

1/8th is the way to go. I ran 3 packs, 2 within a minute of switching out and the other only rested for 10 minutes until I put it in and for almost a straight 1.5 hours I was just bashing on the beach (until I broke an A-Arm - now replaced with RPM) and it never created any heat issues ... motor was warm to the touch but didn't have to pull hand away hot and the ESC was like it wasn't even on.

I think I might skip my plan of 1/8th and beef the crap out of this truck and get some 4s to really test out some speed later on this summer.

It looks like people like it, too, from what I've read so far. One guy says that it is yet to get hot after running 4S 5000 mAH in his R/C vehicle. It sounds like a pretty good deal. They say that it can perform back-flips when in a R/C. One person put it into his E-Maxx 3905 and that it's definitely worth the money. For $140, how can you go wrong? The Mamba Monster is double if not more than the price of this motor+ESC combo and it seems just as good.
Just accelerate, and only good will come.

Tenshock SC401 motors look good for around $60, matched to a ********* 150 amp ESC would make a decent combo for $140

Still only a few dollars cheaper than the Castle 2400 combo though

I am testing a few of the cheaper Motors / ESC's to see how they stack up, results will be posted over the next week or so

Initial test of the Tenshock SC401 4600kv is promising, they make heaps of power

    Cheers

Buck up for the Castle MMM/2650 set up, its pretty impossible to overheat it on 2s or 3s in Canada or USA Climate. The stk and sct/3800 fries on 3s when geared up and probably same in Sand or taller grass.

Why is this so much cheaper on this site? Is this the only monster mamba and if not what's the difference between this and the others. I want to upgrade my slash 4wd and am trying to figure out which way to go. If anyone can explain it would be great.
    Thnx

Gonitrohobbies has good pricing on a lot of gear

If you are a Supersaver member at Tower its not much more

Not that hard to look up the ESC specs for yourself mate, go to Castle's website, in a nutshell..........

    Sidewinder
    $65
    3s limit
    Sensorless only

    Mamba Max Pro
    $130
    6s limit
Handles more current than the Sidewinder
Will run a sensorless or sensored motor

    Cheers
