    Unhappy So Yeah.....

Ok well, i got my sv2/5700 yesterday. Went in smooth, had all the parts i needed. So i took it out side for the first run. Everything is going well i hear the "werrrr" of gears and a little puff of smoke. /sigh

I guess i underestimated the power of this thing. I should have tighten the slipper cluch way up. It has so much power it just kept spinning that slipper and melted my spur gear. Bummer. I oreder a new slipper and spur last night but not going to be here for 3 days. I might call my HS see if they have any. Just sucks to drive 1 1/2 hours for a $5 part.

So i guess the question is, you guys running this combo tighten you slipper way up huh?

    Anyways thanks for reading.

I would recommend buying a couple slippers and Spurs at your LHS so you don't have to drive 11/2 hours next time. Also, your SV2 is programmable with the Castle Link, so I would set some throttle curves to reduce the initial drive line stress. Just back it off enough at the start to still allow it to be insane fun, but not "Oh crappy, Im broke again and have to sit and watch my friends play for hours with their great working stock trucks"

I have my slipper a tight as it will go and let the diff do the work. I also have the punch setting turned off and a bunch of other things adjusted on the esc. Last week I had it out for the first time this year and I had the power down to 50% and the thing would still fly. That is untill I took my eyes off it for a second and bashed into a curb.... Bent all 4 front rods and I am running the full t-bone bumper set.

i used to go through slipper clutches real easily. there's nothing inherently wrong with them, but with more powerful motors or batteries (or both) the poor little thing just can't cope and just melts.

i used to be able to at least file stripped spur gears so i could use them till i get a new one, but there isn't much i can do about a melted spur.

You should feel lucky that you hav a local hobby store. But yea slippers are like $4 each I'd just go on a shopping spree, 2 slippers, and 5-6 spur/pinion combinations for different speeds and terrains. Then maybe that new motor heat sink.

Well thanks for the info guys. I'm going to just wait till my parts come that i ordered on-line. It will give me some time to give it a good disassemble and make sure the rest is ready for that beast of a motor. Also I'm thinking of putting the ecu in the empty battery compartment. I really have no need for it. I don't mind changing out batts and it would tidy it up a lot. I'm sure others have done this. What do you think? Work well?

I have made mine to go in the battery compartment but was warned to raise it so your heat sink fins stick out. I guess it will get to hot in there or you could add a fan. Also if you cut the chassis just right you can give yourself many mounting options. leave enough of the groove where the stock esc went and you can still use the stock waterproof one if you like. you can glue a couple pieces of lexan and use some velcro and make your own slide in mount and still have the cut opening to drop the esc into. Anyway here are some pics, probably easier to understand.
