    Gearing Question

    Hey guys,

I am posting this for a buddy - he has a slash 2 x 4 non vxl which he converted to the vxl power system (motor and esc). I opened up his gearbox the other day to find a 19t pinion and 106 tooth spur. I feel like whenever he upgraded he never changed the gearing in there.

The issue is that I have a rustler vxl (stock 25/83), we both just got 2s 30c lipo's and i'm kicking his tail on the street.

What gearing should he realistically be running because I know that his current setup is incorrect for the vxl system.

Any input would help thanks guys! *** oh also to note he's got talon's all round**.

Not sure off hand but I know you can fing it here on thier website. Look at the info for 2wd slash and im pretty sure it gives gear ratios for different speeds.
Dont quote me but i think for 60+ mph the gearing in 31/76 on a 3S lipo. I WAS warned about making it that fast... could burn up motor if ran for a long period of time (non-stop).

The general rule is, go down on the Spur and up on the Pinion(teeth) to go faster at top speed.
The Slash 2wd model 5803 comes 90/19 stock, so I don't know where he got 106spur?? That is way high, if he is trying for a higher top speed. I would never go that high for any application, at least I don't think so...LOL
He should be geared around 86/23, which is box stock in the VXL system slash.(my friend has that). He could try going down even further in the Spur teeth for a higher top speed. I believe my friend has a 70something Spur & a 30something Pinion, with a 3s LIPO, which he is trying to get a higher top speed. (hav'nt seen that run yet)
When he goes that low on the Spur and that high on the Pinion, he should monitor the HEAT on the MOTOR/ESC, just to be safe. I would imagine, that gearing should not be run at full throttle for too long.

32/76 is about the best you can go on a slash. Not much different (for top speed) will fit. I tested mine with that setup and its next to impossible to wheelie with it (thats if you're also looking to wheelie)
