Slono's MERV Build

[Slono]

The life of this 1/16 E-Revo REALLY began when it was sold to me by a teenager who treated it poorly. It came with cracked bulkheads, a warped chassis, broken knuckles, missing rocker bushings, and a burnt out servo. It was my first RC vehicle and its taken me a while to research all the parts and save up enough to fix it up. Now that I have restored it, in my opinion, its become quite a looker. I hope you enjoy

wow thats a very nice car, i have had my merv for about 4 months and havent upgraded anything on it beside getting a 2s lipo, i drive it around 2-3 times a week and am yet to break a single part and i do drive pritty hard, the reson i havent upgraded anything is because im only 14

Be careful with the dual servos. I burnt mine doing it. I called traxxas and they said they don't recommend it because they will be fighting each other. Weird because they put two slots in the chassis.

Where'd you get that motor heat sink? Mine only has like 7 fins pointing straight up, not going around the sides.

I think its a very old version that I got from the toyz.

And @ Ige_santos, you have to align the servos properly so they don't "fight" with each other. There should be little to no chatter when you turn everything on. The torque is amazing.

@ ethores, the lights were just LED lights in casings that I fit through the body. The wires led to a 9v battery attachment and the battery powered the lights.

I actually didn't use bearings for the rockers. I found that the bearings would seize even if I lubricated them, so I replaced them with the plastic (stock) ones and found they were much smoother.

Nice info since I lost just one I thought about buying the bearings, luckily I just bought a pack of stockers! Thanks!

You'll want to buy bearings anyway for the axle carries (knuckles) because they wear down after a while. I believe they're the same size... Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I've replaced them since I haven't run it much at all through the winter.

I don't think they put "two slots" in for the servos. I think they LEFT them in from the larger 1:10/1:8 scale E-Revo. It's simple enough to take the file for the car and simply say "resize to 50%" and everything shrinks. Thus, they did that with/for the 1:16 and we are left with two slots, one of which comes with a nice and easy cover. They must have LEFT it like that for modular setups, allowing you to place the servo on either side of the car. That's all speculation, but makes the most sense to me.

Very clean install BTW, looks great! In the summer you should hit up Chingacousy Park in Brampton, I'm looking forward to FINALLY having an RC there.

I live in Brampton near the William's Parkway exit. I'll meet up with you for sure! Unfortunately I sold this car to somebody else but I have another revo I"m working on. It'll be a couple months before its where I want it to be.

This is just an updated parts list... even though the original pictures in my first posts are a totally different car, I had the a spare body and the same paints so needless to say the body looks just like the first one, except the rear window which is translucent instead of painted over.

How are the integy bulkheads holding up?

Very well. Mind you I do most of my driving on pavement and I haven't done jumps higher than 8-9 feet high.

I just replaced my bent up Traxxas toe link with a whole new set of steel toe links and push rods by GPM. Now I'm looking for another aluminum rocker to replace the bent Hot Racing one.

I also ordered an LED set that should plug into my receiver.

Why didn't you go titanium? How did you bend them

Sometimes that will do it. Especially with the aluminum steering assembly. Plastic 7043 is only 12 bucks but is a weak link that could of saved those aluminum toe links

I have a dual servo setup and I think combined with the aluminum bulkheads I have, the only way I could get the servos to not fight was to put the aluminum steering assembly on there. They would fight a lot if I had the stock plastic one on there. I'm still waiting on my ******* 390.

What options do I have if I want my MERV to go faster without getting a larger motor? I'm Upgrading to an sidewinder v2 so I'm pretty sure heat won't be an issue like it is with the stock ESC. I need suggestions!
