I saw these on my buddy's truck. HPI Savage hexes.

They fit perfectly.

They're cheap.

No more slop!!!!

I suggest you also pick up 2x 3982, Traxxas teflon washers.

I noticed the axel can slide a bit if you don't use the washers, probably not a big deal but I wanted it perfect.



I used 5 washers per wheel.







Perfect fit.

(except for the washers of course)



This holds the wheel tight, I have 0 slop in the wheels now.

I've been trying to balance the wheels. Between no slop, and balanced, the truck might run real well.

I'm also dropping to 4 washers per wheel...

Ive had those and they worked really well. I lost one when it came loose in a parking lot and I couldnt find it. You might want to use some loctite or an additional lock nut just in case.

I personally didn't trust that many Teflon washers stacked together. The hardware store had some thick 6mm metal washers that worked well.

Went for a bash with the new setup.

19/54 gearing, 6s, masher tires, slash body. This is my typical bashing setup. Right away I noticed how much balancing helped the tires. My balance job wasn't perfect, but what I did really helped.

I started by taking the pin out of the cv, allowing the wheel to freely spin. Then I put each of my 6 wheels on, one at a time. I'd spin the wheel and see if it wanted to settle in one spot. Then I'd add hot glue, in a big ugly pile on the inside of the rim. Glue opposite of where the heavy spot appears to be.



My bearings are in rough shape, but this was at least an improvement. Except 1 wheel... first test drive one of the rear wheels was shaking badly. Some of the wheels took a huge amount of hot glue.

Good thing I balanced all 6, I swapped it with another, and now the truck runs smoothly.

I think it was a combination of both balance and tighter wheels, but the revo has never run so well at high speed. I could scream across the park, probably coming close to 50 mph on grass!

I had 1 failure... The truck kicked up in the rear, and in my attempt to save it, I hit the throttle in the air...

I think one of the wheel lugs wasn't on tight enough, when the truck landed on its roof, I hit the brakes. 1 wheel unbolted itself and went rolling across the field.

I found the lock nut, and the hex inside the wheel was only moderately damaged. I put it back on, and found both wheels on that side were loose.

After that, no issues.

Another very inexpensive 17mm option, are the adapters that come with Axial Oversive rims. My son has them installed in his brushless Revo without any issues. The main difference is that the hexes are plastic instead of aluminum but they have held up to running a 1518 on 4s no problem.

They also come with all other HPI rims for free. But the most serious and definitely the best solution ist THAT, imho.

No, the slash uses 5mm axles, the revo uses 6mm.

I have a 17mm AKA Adaptor for the slash but after 8 Months it is also sloppy. And the HPI would be a cheap alternative.

But I would still like to know if the toe is the same as the factory adaptor in the e-Revo.

I think you mean track-width, as in how wide the truck is, measured from the outside of the wheel on each side; I don't think you'll loose more than 1/4" really, nothing noticeable as such.

I measured... exactly the same track width mounted.



I balanced my stock wheels, then found they don't fit on the new hexes.

I think if I cut the stock hex's flush like the HPI's I could mount them the same way.

I had the same issue as well. And the hexes break in the centers from tightening down hard. I also noticed that they are not a true 17mm size. They seem to be a hair smaller which makes a huge difference when landing wrong and strips out the wheel. For people who lightly bash and do speed runs they would be perfect and cheap.

No such issue here.. the hexes on my wheels still look great, and the nuts have never come off, I didn't use loctite either.. nor did I have to tighten them down crazy hard. My hex nuts look slightly different, though.. they fit firmly, in fact they sometimes remain stuck in the wheel when taking it off.

Nope, used the smooth HPI hexes, but you're right, one could chop the Traxxas hex, use the HPI lock nut, and have the best of both worlds, the spined 17mm, and no slop....

I destroyed one of my stock hexes in an attempt to make a tire balancer... if I ever end up with a set of stock hexes in hand, I'm chopping those suckers down.

Ok I am using 3.8'' Trenchers and the came mounted on Tech 5 rims and they are 17 mm hexes . And I have a little slop all 4 rims when I run my Revo .So ducati777 you are saying to make that slop stop is to use HPI Savage 17mm Hexes hubs and that will solve the problem .

Yup. HPI hexes, check your pillow ball retainers and you'll be slop free.

That is one thing that is too often overlooked when having wheel slop...
Tighten ( not over tighten ) your pillow ball retainers once in a while and you'll reduce slop...

My erbe is rockin thicker nylon washers from the HW store and never had any wheel slop. Cheaper and easier than sleeves and or other hexs.

A lot of the slop seems to come from the CV joint. Can any thing be done about that? Will washers for shimming the horizontal movement as shown by ducati777 help with this as well?

Just picked up 2 sets of savage hexs... figured for $5 a 2nd set would be good for spares.

Total cost for 2 sets and shipping was about $16... not bad really.
