How do you tell when a battery cell dies?

Is there anyway to know besides speed difference?

Well... What type of battery? If it is a lipo, you can measure each cell from the balancing cord. If it is a NiMH or NiCD you have to take the cover off and measure each cell, then tape it bake together, which I don't recomend.

1st indicator a NiMh cell has died, is if you put the pack in and it runs great for about a minute and a half, then it drops significantly in power, and then runs a loooooooooooong time at a really slow speed.

2nd indicator a NiMh cell has died would be upon charging, if one cell's temperature is WAAAY outta line with the others in the pack, often times to the point of melting the shrinkwrap. Usually results in a lot of false peaks shortly after beginning a charge, too. (ie temps of 94,97,99,112,138,110...... cell 5's either shorted, or on it's way out)
