    Futaba 4pl

Has anyone tried this radio yet.More to the point on the Summit.I have been waiting for Traxxas to make a computerized radio for years.I have a DX3S which would require 3 servos to run off Aux and give you high gear normal and low gear with diffs locked.Once you use a computerized radio you get spoiled by the ease of setting up end points, throttle & brake curves, and you could even mix in the throttle to unlock the diffs at any given point/speed.The steering expo is also much more adjustable to compensate for high speeds.

I do have a 4PL for my Xray T3 but couldn't figure out how to use it for my Summit.
I was as well not sure, if a water proof installation would be possible. Therefore I still use the standard Traxxas radio.
I am interested as well in any information how to use the 4PL.

Is the Rx the same size as the Traxxas one ? If so the swap would be easy, just put it in the waterproof case and run the antenna lead out.The switches on the Tx grip could be used for the H/L range on one and the diff locker on the other. If I do it I will probably just do both lockers at the same time. The swap should be plug and play and set the servo EPAs.The rest would be personal preference for Expo on the steering, throttle and brake. How do you like the radio? I am still waiting for my LHS to get one in so I can check it out.

I like the 4PL. The large screen makes it easy to change or check settings.
The model memory would allow to save different settings for different cars.
That's the reason why I would like to replace all other radios by this one.
Would be good anyway, if Traxxas would start selling cars without radio. I do not mind to spend the $ on other things....

Yes I agree they should sell all models in BND and without radios.I think the Slash has a model or 2 that come without them. For my airplanes and heli's I have one DX6i that has all 10 models filled.Traxxas could make a killer 4ch computerized 2.4 and sell their models both ways.I have had many brands of cars and trucks and I think Traxxas offers the best and toughest ones out there I just wish they would offer some options.

I installed the 4pl in the Summit and have the lockers on the 3 position slide switch and the H/L range on the push button. The shifts on both are much quicker and lock in instantly.DT3 runs the D/R steering 100% / 50% and DT4 the ATL braking %.The Rx is smaller so it fits in the waterproof case easy.PM me if you have any questions on the wiring of ch 3 & 4 as the Rx only has 1 outlet for each. I also hid all wiring in the top of the battery box and it comes out by the servos in the opening between the vent and chassis.I like the way the screen shows the position of every servo and the ESC in constant motion so you know where to make adjustments.Very happy with the radio, set up is easy and similar to the set up of a DX6i only expo is reversed with Futaba so I now run -100% steering expo.

Thanks for the explanations - are you using the R2104GF as RX?
Or the alternatives R603GF or R2004GF?

Yes I am using the R2104gf and I have switched the push button to run the timer to measure run times and put the H/L on the DT3 with 2p.I am now making my first attempt to run the mixing of the throttle and steering % so that when the throttle goes above 50% my steering % goes down by an = amount.I should have only 50% steering throw at 100% full throttle in high gear.It will be a good feature to stop rookie oversteer when kids/others are driving it and can be shut off on DT4.I have done this on Aircraft to prevent the wings from ripping off during high speed operation.

Hello, i am also interested on using the 4pl in the summit but i have some questions. First do you lock both diffs simultaneously? If no, how exactly you lock them independently and how can you adjust the epas for each of them individualy if they are both linked to one channel? thanks in advance

To use a 3 position switch on a single channel to lock the diffs in series (like the stock setup) you need to use the T-Lock box from the older summit with the AM radio. It plugs into the RX, then both locking servos plug into the T-Lock... when the switch is moved from top to middle one diff locks, then when you move it to the bottom the 2nd diff locks. Just like the stock radio.

With my MT4 I did not need to adjust EPA's for the locking servos. I had to tweak the servo horn when the diffs were unlocked so the servo wasn't working to keep them open... but once I got them. set correctly, they don't work hard to lock the diffs. They don't really buzz at all when the diffs are locked. So far, after quite a bit of running, no negative effects on the servos at all. I assume the 4PL would operate very much the same as my MT4 since they are essentially the same radio by different MFG's.

so if i get it right the epa on the diff lock servos is the same exactly and you fine tune the horns so the servos work correctly right?
