    Exotek big-bore shocks

    Hi all,

Has anyone used the exotek big-bore shock upgrade. Are they any good. I am looking for better quality shocks for taking on hard landings and generally a stronger more robust suspension. Heres the link :-

My stock ones were leaking very soon. I replaced them with the Traxxas alu ones, which work pretty good. I also mounted stiffer springs so it lands with less bouncing of the chassis on the ground.

Thanks Peterje60. I will probably try out the Traxxas ally ones first. They seem to be good. Which springs do you use?

I got the pink TRX7244 ones. I would have gone heavier, but my LHS didn't have those on stock.

Your best bet to soften the landing is put thicker shock fluid in the shocks. I'm running 60w all around in my merv with black springs in the rear and tan in the front in the gtr shocks. It takes jumps like a champ with almost no preload. Obviously this isn't the best for bashing, but i'm running on an indoor offroad carpet track and this setup works well for me. Even with my mamba system it's not much different handling wise. I think I may go one or two weights higher in the shock fluid to compensate for the heavier system, other than that it's almost identical handling wise. Let us know what you decide to try out, and how it went! Also where are you running your truck, track or bashing?

As for making the suspension more 'robust', i'd replace the stock rocker bushings with bearings (two in each rocker) for a smoother actuation.

Thanks eurofocus. I will probably try out the traxxas ally gtr shocks with harder springs. Do your have the traxxas codes for
the ally shocks and black and tan springs?

Well... read the page. They say these are the stiffest but not rated like Traxxas does. That seems a no as answer to your question.

I can see that these come only for E-Revo 1/16 what about Slash? Are these the same parts? Not a single word about Slash on Exotec's page though.

Slash and Merv use same size of shocks if I am right.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that that's correct. Both have the same size.

I wonder why they didn't mention Slash, but I know that's exactly the same body (You can make E-Revo form Slash and vice versa).
