    Stampede broken?

My Traxxas Stampede won't run (go forward/backwards) but the steering works fine. Bad motor? I separated the motor from the gear and the motor wont run so I'm assuming that it is a motor issue. Bringing it to the hobby store tomorrow, anyone have any other thoughts on it?

Does the motor shaft spin if you spin it with your fingers? If it does, its not likely the motor, its likely the ESC... do the lights come on on the ESC?

Lights DO come on on the ESC, and sometimes it turns red, but it has done that ever since the day that I got it... The motor turns fine if I spin the gears. I'm thinking of getting a brushless motor...

Wait, is this truck a 2X4 stampede or a 4X4? if its a 4X4 it already has a brushless motor... if its a 2X4 and its an XL5 ESC its likely the titan motor is dead (very common) and this should really be posted in the 2X4 stampede forum... just down the main forum page a bit further.

Is the motor a solid blue color with black cap on the back? Or is it silver with a sticker that says titan? Is yoru speed control an XL5 or VXL (it will say on it)

    Then we'll know... is your truck a 2X4 or a 4X4?

    Silver with Titan. XL5.

That obviously means that I have a brushed motor. When I take it to the hobby store today I'm probably going to upgrade to brushless. Is there anything else that I need to change if I upgraded to brushless besides the motor and the XL5 to VXL?

Oh and on a side note: I can't seem to find the 2x4 forum. Could you give me a link to it?

Stampedes come with a mount plate thats compatible for both XL5 and VXL... nothing else is needed to upgrade but I do suggest replacing the bushing at the axles with bearings front and rear... the bushings will wear out very quickly with brushless power.

The 2X4 stampede forum is just below this one on the forum list and its called "stampede and monsterjam models"... thats the one youll want to be posting in.

do you have a stampede with all metal transmission gears if not make sure you change them to metal otherwise you'll grind up the plastic ones with that much power

If you look at a new stampede 2wd parts list online it will tell you the metalgear part number to replace the plastic one because they are the same transmission except the new one comes with all metal gears

I'm still confused, I have only one plastic gear and a steel pinion gear. Do I just need to replace the plastic gear? If so which one do I need? I have the stampede XL-5 (2x4)

ok so hears the deal your motor is in the back of your car right so the motor turns which turns the pinion then turns the spur which is connected to a rod that goes inside the grayish box inside the grayish box are gears 2 of them will be plastic if you have an older stampede how old is your stampede? the plastic spur gear is fine but the 2 plastic gears in side of the grayish box will grind up if you get vxl that is why you need to make them steel the links that i gave you earlier are the 2 plastic gears in the transmission i was talking about if you have any more questions feel free to ask

You said there would be 2 plastic gears that I needed to replace. Can I use two of those or do you have to have two different gears?

you have to have2 different gears here are the links http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...388x&search=Go
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSGZ3&P=7 now how old is your stampede because that affects whether they are metal or not because traxxas started putting all metal gears in them so before you buy those gears i would take the transmission apart to see whether they are plastic or metal

Yes I was just looking at the specifications (http://traxxas.com/products/models/e...ampede-details) and it says that it has brushless ready transmission or something like that. You might want to look just to make sure I'm seeing that right.

Edit: for some reason my first post wasn't showing up so I made another one and now they both show up and I can't delete the first one. Sorry.

I had the same problem after a week my steering worked but the car didnt move. come to find out the motor was bad the titan motors suck if you dont break them in right. Traxxas will want u to send the motor back to them they know there crap motors. I bought a new one for $26.00. and what sucks is the motor isnt covered under the warrenty so its just easier to buy a new one and break it in i used rubbing alcohol to break it in and it runs great. just place the motor in a cup full of alcohol or distilled water and set the throttle trip to half and let it run for atleast 20 minutes hope this helps
