I need help with gearing for acceleration

As the title states im looking for faster acceleration. The coarse I run is a parking lot. The straights are about 150-200 feet and we use the light poles at each end as the turns to make a nice oval. As of right now my jato is set in the lowest shock postions and im pretty happy with the handling. I just need a little extra punch out of the turns so I can pass as we're barley hitting 2nd gear. We're all running 3.3 Jato's so the competition is close with the same truck with minor tweaks done. Soon we'll see different tires such as 2.2 panther slicks, and 2.8 losi road weapons, maybe differnet exhausts to thrown into the mix so one may be faster then the other. Im looking for that edge and that sweet setup that leaves everyone wondering and in the dust

If anyone know about gearing such as the 20/40 revo combo or any other suggestions for a small on road coarse quick acceleration that doesnt need full top speed please help me out.

After some reading I found it's good for acceleration to go down in teeth on the clutch bell and increase the teeth on the spur...? Please some one chime in I nned help before I go and order the wrong gears.

56 tooth spur gear not sure about the clutch spur gears are like 3.00 a pop buy one of each size and do some testing. Spyder I am not too sure about the clutch bell sizing I know I lowered mine dropped some weight went to 2.2 dish rims and CVDS and the milled chassis Traxxas makes. Also I used 80 wt shock oil fo a bit of handling and in the diff I went with 120k diff fluid. I hope this helps you out some

I got a 57t spur gear with a 20t clutch gear, works amazing. There is topend speed to sacrifice but it get's up and goes a lot better. If you haven't already done so, look into getting some foam tires too, keeps the car tracking straight on full throttle take offs and won't balloon up at the higher speeds. I can still get her up to around 45 or so, and that's all I need for small parking lots. I noticed this helped me out since I added all the weight of all aluminum parts. My stock on-road Jato all I did was put foam tires on and I'm good to go.

Yeah my lots kind of small so im going to try the 20 tooth clutch bell with the 54 spur, that should give me a 2.7 gear ratio which is a little higher (better acceleration) then the stock 2.45 ratio. Im going to use this as a starting point then maybe i'll try the 57t with the 20t Bell for a 2.85 ratio if I feel I need to. Im also going to get the 5483 polished resonator for even more bottom end punch! I just slapped on a set of aluminum GTR shocks with the stock springs and 45 wt. oil and I drilled out the revo pistons that came with the shocks, the holes were rediculously small and I was gettin NO rebound! im pretty happy with this set up. I run the anaconda's taped and 2.2 badlands taped for off road so I need a susspension setup that can do double duty and is'nt to bais for either driving condition.

18/44 is slower than stock 24/54. if you want go faster, go for 20/40 Revo gearing.

back in the dark ages. on 1/4 mile racers. would gear the race car to top speed to happen 100-200 ft before the finish line. so you are cruising the last 100-200 ft. strange as it might seem that gets you to the finish line sooner. so get out the calculator, do the math

Spyder..... I use a 56T spur and a 20T clutch bell and the jato is quick as h$#*. You might want to think about what type of clutch to use also. I switched to a MIP Part #1620 two shoe clutch with heavy duty spring but it has a 2 hole option on how you can put it on the flywheel. If you put it on your flywheel on the 1st set of holes the clutch enages harder. If you use second holes its enagages smoother. The first set of holes is what I have mine set for and it rips. Love it!

Here is the link showing what that MIP clutch does or how the 2 hole option works. I think part #1620 is no longer made but the Revo and Tmaxx MIP clutch work on the Jato too. I bought the tmaxx MIP clutch from tower hobbies and have used it both on my MAXX and my jato. Its interchangable.

Also what fuel are you using? A higher Nitro % will give you better performance down low too. I use Wildcat 30% Nitro 14% oil. Works great and you're not skimping on oil in this fuel. 14% is a good % and very safe

One thing to take into consideration when you are gearing for more acceleration is the added wheel spin you will have. I run mine with the panther slicks on it and even running the revo gearing at 20/40 and even 20/38 it will still spin 'em. Just another challenge to control.

That seems to be a pretty low gear ratio to run. Problems that may result could be not enough power to really get it going effectively, and in addition needing a really large area to run it to see its full potential. My opinion would be to go with the revo gears, you can go down to 20/36 which makes for a good top speed without bogging it down too bad.

If you want great take off and too still have great top speed you can run 54t spur gear and a 22t clutch bell, tighten up the clutch engage nut about 1/4 of a turn clock wise to gain quicker response. Good luck bro!
