I think the stock pinion is a 25? is that right... I went down to a 23 with the stock spur and it would get pretty warm still on 2S. I did some venting mods to the body and that helped with heat but even after installing a heat sink and fan on the motor it was still hotter than I would have liked. Id say a 21/45 would be good. Or 23/50.

I think you are thinking about the 2wd stampede or 2wd slash....the pinion options are 28T stock and 31T optional high speed....

As far as the gearing for 2s, my rally ran fine with the 31t pinion on high speed runs.

great thanks guys. I'll be trying the 28 t on 2s and check temps. Another question, how are you guys venting your bodies?

Ahhh, gottcha... I swapped out to a smaller pinion than the smallest one included so I must be running a 25t now and was thinking a 23t would be better to control heat. I know the stock pinion ran hot on 2S. But that may just have been how I was running.

yea was thinking the same thing. you could open the closed scoop on the top im thinking of modding mine by getting some thin plastic and creating scoops that go on the front lip and run to the engine but who knows
