What is the silicon grease used for that they sell for the e-revo? Is it for your plastic gears? And why would you use it.

You don't lube plastic gears. The silicone grease is usually used to seal the receiver box around the wire exit. There's a foam pad there that you soak with the grease to create a mostly waterproof seal.
