My MERV lemon?
Hey everyone...a little background on my problem:
My friend and I both got new Merv vxl's for christmas. We have ran our cars together pretty much everytime we've used them 2 or 3 times per week. Since day 1 there has abeen a DISTINCT difference between our two cars. When he hits the throttle from standing still to 100% you can not only see the vastly greater power, torque and acceleration, but you can also hear the difference by how much higher his motor revs and how quickly it goes from nothing to full revs.
If I didn't have another merv right there to compare it to I wouldn't know the difference and assume everything was fine with mine because it is still pretty fast and very fun to drive, and probably easier to handle because of the lack of speed. Although like most people if I can go faster I want to go faster and have more power like he does. I got some 2s lipos this week and tried them out lastnight expecting there to be a massive difference from running the standard 7.4 nimh. Well there isn't. It probably has a bit more speed and runs for a longer time but it is nothing at all like i expected based on how I've heard people rave about the difference between lipos and nimh. My friends' hasn't run yet with the lipos so I don't have anything to compare it to.
So I went ahead and bought another esc and motor figuring one day I would need them. My question is what is causing my huge lack of power in comparison to my friends model that is exactly the same as mine? Is it the esc or motor or one of the two? I'm really hoping if i put the new esc in that it will magically run like my friends car, or I guess it could be the motor? Or maybe something else?
I took my spare motor and hooked it up to my current ESC on the car and ran it by just listening to how fast it revved vs the motor that is already on the car and they sounded pretty much the same as far as i could tell. I know it's not a very scientific testing method but I thought I'd give it a shot to see if it was the motor that was the problem or the ESC.
Any advice would help....unless you guys let me know about some other problem I could have I plan to switch the ESC asap and see if that makes a difference?
