I use propane most of the time because it's easy and fast but prefer charcoal for the taste.

To quote Alton Brown, "Propane combines America's two obsessions: convenience, and lighting things on fire!"

Charcoal definitely tastes better; there's no comparison! Whenever my dad and I have time to kill or are desperate for BBQ, we go with charcoal.
But, we usually cook with propane because of the convenience.

    Charcoal!

    Real men cook with charcoal!

I have a portable gas grill for tailgating at the track or ball games.

Is it true you can't cook with charcoal in California because of smog regulations?

And that's why we don't want our meat tasting like propane! Hehe.

omg no!!! that would stink. that's like taking away the pledge of alleigence b/c it says a certain word in it. If they were to ban charcoal, they would have to ban chimmney fires too. I think you were joking though.

Actually, I wasn't joking. Maybe it was the charcoal starting fluid they banned. Anyway, if CARB had its way, we would have catalytic converters and EFI on our nitro RC's.

Another question for Californian's: are 2 stroke blowers and trimmers banned there?

The exhaust systems on mowing equipment are baffled for less noise, and they all have spark-suppressant systems to prevent brush fires. Other than that, I think 2-strokes are unchanged in California.
But, I've never lived there, so I'm not sure.

On two stroke motorcycles, the manufactures have to pass certain regulation. Same think with the sparkarestors/silencers sold in CA. California and the tree huggers are why the two stroke is becoming extinct.

Having used both I must say I really prefer Propane.

I don't get the whole charcoal thing. It's smelly makes your food taste chemically and gererally makes a mess, plus who the heck wants to wait 15-20 mintues to even start cooking? Not me!

I can turn my gas grill on warm it up and flash cook them babies in almost the same time it takes just to get a coal grill up to cooking temps!

Ain't no well done meat coming off my grill!

If it's the same color as the charcoal your cooking over, you may as well have same the time money and effort and just eaten the charcoal right out of the bag!

Still I'd rather cook over charcoal then not grill at all!

    Long live the grill!
