Body Protection Needed-How?

Having lots of fun but it is hard to keep the wheels down and the pavement makes a very harsh grinder on bodies. The Summit body seems the most durable with the roll cage and takes lots more abuse. Roads close are the old gravel laid over a tar base and very harsh. Not smooth like hot rolled black top.

I'm wondering how or what a person could put on a body to give more abrasive protection and came across this:

One roll is less then a painted body cost. Wonder how it would work. Any ideals on this or some other solution?

Have you tries any aftermarket bodies? I know proline are 2-3 times as this as the stock one, which should last a little longer, or just run a full roll cage, with out a body. then you can wear out roll cages lol

I love my proline body. it takes MAJOR abuse.

Tape two ERBEs back to back.

That tape looks interesting, and it's clear to let the paint show through. Personally I can't be bothered to paint so I'd like to stay with the Traxxas bodies. Assuming you're in the same boat, how about trying an EMaxx body? Popoxx uses it*, and the raised cab seems to offer a more concentrated contact area. This translates into a smaller area that you have to tape.

Summit shell is indeed an option... you can buy the black rollcage pieces by themselves when they get beaten up.

I've heard that mounting a stiff fiberglass antenna rod to the car can help prevent such damage as well... the rod will bias it towards landing on or returning to its feet. You just have to find a nice, secure place to brace it. As a bonus, you can trick people into thinking that you've got the best AM radio system ever.

I'd recommend AGAINST running with a roll cage and no shell. RC Solutions says that this is a recipe for disaster, as the roll cage can snag on a piece of the road, which turns a belly-up slide into a belly-up crash. Instead of abrading the shell, you will end up breaking parts.

Let us know if you try the tape. I'm interested in how it performs. =)

On my slash, I glued two strips of an old, cut apart buggy tire on the roof. Gave it a rugged look and great protection of the body.

That's a pretty good idea ^^^ if you have an old tire laying around. I have seen guys put the stiff side of velcro along the main contact areas on top of the body. I have used electrical tape in the same way but it didn't hold up- surprise.... I think gluing rubber or sticking velcro on are two cheap good options.
For the sturdiness of the shell people usually put shoe goo (or something similar) mixed with dry wall tape in the main impact areas inside the body and that's known to hold up well. My e revo body has plenty of damage but the areas with this ^ done are still strong as far as cracks go.
