    Nissan Sentra owners?

Any one here own a late model Nissan Sentra, or know any one that does? I'm interested in Sentra owners' opinions.

I'm looking at a 2007 Sentra S with 58000 miles. The lot has it tagged at $8500, which curiously is below KBB. I drove it and it seems just fine. What has me hesitating is an unusual sound when it accelerates. I'm no mechanic, but if I had to guess I'd describe the sound as an exhaust manifold leak. I can hear the vroom of the engine as well as this noise.

I also spotted an '07 Mazda 3, just a couple hundred dollars more. There's lots of good info on MSN Autos for used cars and they both look like good vehicles. The Mazda seems to have an edge on reviews though. They both have timing chains, too, which appeals to me a lot.

But at any rate, any one have any personal experience with a current-generation Sentra?

An exhaust manifold leak will be more of a tick when it accelerates. It's not a real big problem, but it can be later down the road. Since we really can't tell unless we hear it, i'd say get a mechanic or buddy to go down with you to see if he can find something wrong with it. Maybe he just has low prices?

I can't help with the nissan, but any dealer worth your money should let you have your mechanic check it out. I love my mazdaspeed 6. The 3 has many loyal followers, is fun to drive, and gets great reviews. Always make an offer lower than they're asking. Worst case scenario, they don't take it.

Could be. It's a rather neat location. It's a 40,000 square foot indoor "show room" with 90% high-end german cars. This Sentra was a previous customer's trade-in. It might be that since this is small potatoes, they want to move it out to keep their warehouse looking classy.

But yes they're happy to let me take it to the mechanic. EVEN, due to the logistics and difficulty of me doing it during the week, the salesman offered to drive it down there himself.

I haven't gotten to that point yet (haven't been able to call my mechanic yet) that's why I was asking about opinions. Not opinions on "what's the problem with this car" but more broad and general happiness with a Sentra.

I know people that like them I have always thought of them as a daily driverto get you from one place to the next faster then walking. The mazda is kinda the same way but a bit sporttier. However, I have never owned either one but I would get the Mazda from my expernices and perfernces on cars.
