    building my monster!

hey, so i recently got a summit and put the mamba monster in it, but ive only been running 7c 5000 promatch batteries, so im looking to get into lipo, i need batteries, charger, and anything else that i need to run lipo. I would like to run just 1 battery at a time if possible. i have about 225 bucks to spend. I dont need top of the line stuff, but i dont want crap batteries. So what are some batteries/chargers options? and anything else i will need. i usually shop at towerhobbies but they dont seem to have many options. im looking for about 5000mah. not sure if i need 2s,3s,or 4s? or if i need them in series or parrell? what do you guys suggest?

I think you are going to have to use 2 batterys. because of fitting issues with higher cell count . just go 2s 5000 or bigger at least 30c

I have 4000's they are fine , in fact run cold. but would be nice to have alittle more run time. then again they are cheap so just have more of them , so just change them out until i can get 5000's cheap. and that is with stock titan and stock esc.

cheap batteries , i run are cheap but they are very good quality. Run these on my Helis and planes for a couple of years. and they are better then some of my brand name ones. only charge rate is slow.

You will need 2 lipos. Unless you find a spot to mount a 4S Battery. The Mamba Monster Needs the power of a lipo. all you will do with NiMH batteries is smoke it up. Trust me.....I know from personal experience. SPCracing.com has some really good lipos and at a cheap price. Going on a year now running them in my E-Revo Brushless Edition with no problems what so ever. I use/used them for racing and bashing. I got the 8000mah packs and could run about 45-55 min. hard. You will need a good lipo charger...something as simple as a Venom Pro Charger will do the trick. I use Team Checkpoint chargers with a power supply. and I also have 2 of the venom pro chargers just to charge my spare packs. Works great. Oh yeah.....Don't do 6S....It's not even fun to drive. I only use them when I'm making speed runs at 80+ Good luck

That is the discharge capability (the multiplier if you will) So 5000 mah =5 amps 4000mah=4amps etc.
The "c" rating 30c would be
    5000mah 30c =5amps x30 =150 amps.
    5000mah 40c =5amps x40 =200amps etc

I my self would choose pairs of the 5000 40c 2s1p but check the dimensions of the batts to make sure they will fit.At that price buy a few sets
The icharger 106b is a very good charger to look at as well.buying a good charger is never a bad idea.with the right charger you can charge more than one lipo at a time.I should add it needs a power supply to run on ac power they sell those as well

if you are looking Blues also look at Gens ace (acepow) they have Roar approved 5000 40c 5c charging too . Hard case a little safer in a Car bashing around. when shopping around make sure to check size so you don't have to do heavy modification to battery area. 8000 would be nice though

I run my Summit with 2S (7.4v) lipos. To me, that is plenty of power. However, my driving style is different than most (mostly lower speed trail running). I also can second the recommendation of SPC lipos. I have a few and have been extremely pleased with them.

I think i will just go with these for now

Blue Lipo 2-Cell 5000mAh 2S1P 7.4v 25C Battery with Hard Case for RC Cars
    Sale price: $29.70

Now for a charger, which one would be better?

Venom AC/DC Pro Charger Plus Peak/Balancer

    Venom AC/DC Pro Charger/Balancer

    iCharger 106B+ battery charger

I think i would go with the icharger since it has the built in charger right?

Just remember Blue lipo is only 1C charge rate . That is why I mention the Gens Ace its 5C charge rate. but yea you get most speed in charging at 2C after that you are just punishing the battery for a just a couple of minutes saved. anyway food for thought

"I think i would go with the icharger since it has the built in charger right?"
??? maybe you mean Balancer , yes seems it has a balancer and has XH type plugs on its side.
it is a DC charger so you will also need a power source, car battery or a AC to DC power supply

These are extremely good batteries. Have several and they make things rock. They are not overkill either. They make anything run better. Might check out there chargers as well.

Well, the link did not work. So go to ********* and look under the USA warehouse for 5000 40c hardcase lipo's.

http://www.progressiverc.com/index.p...emart&Itemid=1 this came to mind. you may be able to find it the same place you get the charger. either way you will need a minimum of 10-15 amps w/e power supply you decide on.

On the power supply... For $70 you can get pretty big marine battery, then it's a portable power supply. Why don't more people do that?

Better stay away from Heli's LOL .

you can take 70 off and just use a Car battery(full size of coarse) for power supply for now. just don't forget to start up your car once and while to recharge or you'll be stuck . and make sure charger is not connected when engine is running.

what was the sticker , at our old LHS cash register(yea the one with the crank) ? OH yea "the only difference between Men and Boys, are the price of there toys " but may fav was "the man who dies, with the most toys wins" .

I think might have to research the balance connector compatibility on that scorpion. 10amps sounds good. should be able to handle 2 2s batteries no problem. but look into Balance connection before pulling the trigger maybe ask Kershaw .

I should be getting those exact same batteries in a day or so, ill let you know what connector they use. which i think are JST XH . which is like Blue lipo , electrifly, tenergy, kong thunder, align , venom and allot of others .

as far as castle link You mentioned above you have a Mamba Monster , the link will allow easy programing of that ESC .
its a good investment to have the castle link if you have Castle products like their ESC's Bec's and RX's .

the Gens ace 5000's came in today ( i thought they got lost) . these are different from Blues. they have 3 barrel connectors in the case up on top . the leads are separate. I still run Traxxas connectors , the gens ace has a deans clone on them. so i unsoldered those and put female traxxas connectors on there . low stress because the leads are not on the battery. then it was to figure how to fit them in summit . I don't want to butcher it . first thing i had to remove the black battery support in rear. the battery slides in no problem and door closes . but a huge gap . I cut a piece of Low density foam open cell type they use in packaging (in a pinch you could use the grey foam that the battery comes in and roll it up and stuff up front of battery in summit). slipped that up front so battery is snug in there.
next i decided to remove the rear black air scoops . then i only had to dremel slightly were the original reliefs are cut for battery leads . once battery is in. i plugged the leads into its case . but the rear air scoop also is the latch for back of the door. I toke some velcro strap used on align Helicopters, thin one. and slipped it threw. this holds the door closed.

takes about 20 seconds to install the battery on one side , after mods are done. so not that bad. when installing just be real careful you plug into the correct hole , its labeled . but one could reverse polarity if not paying attention. since the two larger barrels are the same size.

after charging I toke it for a fast blast . and i can see right away there is even more power then the blue 4000's. i can hear the Dewalt motor happy as a maniac , it now has a higher whine , and i can see the summit cover more distance much quicker. so its worth the hassle removing rear scoops to get these to fit. as far as water proof , i don't think so LOL. ill have to do something even for splashing around.

the balance Jack is same as blue JST XH . They balance pretty good. one is .001 and the other is .006 . they were about 43% out of box.

when you get yours and you need a idea just pm me ill take pictures for you.
