It depends what you are going to do with it and how it will be driven. I have the standard 4x4 and I haven't broken anything yet. I'm not running 3s (yet) so that probably helps. You could just buy the base model and upgrade as things break, or you could spend the extra $ and see how that works for you.

I have a 2s lipo and as long as I stay on dirt I don't have any problems, but as soon as I get on pavement or concrete I break driveline components. Usually the half shafts or the ujoints with them. I have also been through numerous A-arms but those are usually my fault, so I can't complain.

If I had it to do all over again, I would either go with the ultimate rtr, or Platinum edition and get a good radiocontroller for it. with the standard rtr, the cost to upgrade just the swaybars and centerdiff and big bore shocks puts you over the price of an ultimate. Add in all the other aluminum goodies that are included in the ultimate and you'll spend another $150.00 or so. Do a little searching here, and you will find lots of similar topics on which parts to upgrade. Kingheadz motor mount would be the first upgrade I would do as well as well as getting the suspension set up(check out the slayden suspension thread).

if your dead set on 3s lipo, the stock vxl system will not handle the abuse for very long. the motor will over heat easily and the esc it's self it finicky. on 2s no prob. if was to do it over again i'd buy a roller off ebay missing the motor/esc/receiver and build it up the way i wanted it.

Also do you want waterproof or not. If not then the roller from ebay I think would be best you could then build what YOU want. If not I have the RTR works great on 2s for me. If you have the $$ get the Ultimate, unless you already have a raidio.
