    Diff Oil for Bash Setup?

Drove my Pede4 today for the first time since I bought it a couple months ago. Slapped some RPM arms on it, and everything alloy GH Racing said would fit

It seemed to my me like the diff fluid was too thin? Mine wants to diff out instantly. So much so that on a semi-step hill climb in my yard it got stuck! Meanwhile, my Summit VXL popped right on up.

I don't know much about diff fluid, but I'm thinking a thicker fluid would help. I just plan on bashing these guy on local tracks (so jumps, decent handling) and yard bashing. Any suggestions on what diff fluid weight I should use? I believe stock is 30K?

I'm running 30K in the rear and Traxxas says they put 30K in the front. 30K helped the rear but its still not great. Given what I've seen so far I would be curious how 50 in the front and 50 or 75 in the rear might work.

As it stands now the truck is much more controllable under heavy acceleration on surfaces with decent traction(ice cold, but dry pavement). However once a tire loses traction climbing anything or turning it "diffs out" quickly.

I've been chewing this for some time now. Just this evening I used a mix of 100k and 50k in the rear. (tower delivery) My ESC is in the shop so I've been slowly upgrading & modifying over the past couple weeks. They just use grease in the rear..equivilent to 30k I'd bet. I gathered 50k wouldn't be worth the work. So I aimed for 75k using this handy tool from a fellow poster http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/oil_mixer.html
Still no ESC for me so I cant test it yet, but I'd bet it'll be an improvement.
Lets just keep posting the results!

Remove the rear assy, pop off the shocks and the wheelie bar. Remove The 4 screws underneath the diff (2 also mount the wheelie bar). Pop off the axles from the diff assy then remove the last 2 screws which hold the plastic housing together. Pull out the diff and remove the 4 screws holding the gear on. Careful of the rubber gasket! Remove the gears and clean em real good! It's not good to mix grease w/ dif fluid. Refill w/ you choice and let it sit propped up on something for a bit to let the fluid settle.
    Reassemble!

I was considering 100 weight, but I'm afraid that might be too much. When it comes to this diff stuff, I'm a serious noob. The only diffs I've ever messed with were my Summit VXL, which I just used Bad Horsie to lock.

I would think that 70ish all the way around would be a decent go-anywhere bash setup.

Just a side note.. Out of the box my pede was very "clunky" when just rolled back and forth on the floor. I've had the whole thing apart (every piece) over the last couple weeks...bonding with her ;-)... Just last night I got everything back together except the ESC & Motor. Now It rolls super smooth. Just seems to glide across the floor almost silently!.. Either I did something right or terribly wrong!

My Pede4 is noisy as well. I think it come from the driveshafts.

    That's what I thought as well... Now I think it was the clunky gears "rattling" the shaft. I used Marine Grade grease on the ring and pinion gears that turn the Diffs..maybe that helped. Or just the fact that I rebuilt everything myself w/ TLC. :}

Anyone else have any input on this diff oil situation? I'd like to order some stuff this weekend, but wanted a little additional input.

This seems to be a "user defined" topic. Just order some 30k, 50k and 100k and start w/ at least 50k in the rear. Then, if need be.. up the front to 50k as well. Then mix-N-match a little until you find a suitable match. Personally I went for a 75 in the rear and left the front stock. When my esc comes back (hopefully 2morrow) I'll give her a run. Then, if warranted I'll hit the front w/50k. and so on..
Once you pull the diff out it's no big deal to do it again. And if you bash in the snow like I do it gives you a chance to clean/lube the rusty parts. Good luck!

When I took my pede 4x4 apart I noticed a slight clicking sound coming from the rear assembly. After closer inspection I determined that the noise seemed to be coming from the bearing, so Ill see how that goes. Also, you may notice a rattling sound. It comes from the play in the main driveshaft. Its easily fixed with 2 o-rings on the differential outputs.

Let me know how the 75 runs. I've got the front torn down, just need to order some fluid.

My noise is FOR SURE coming from the blue drive shaft that runs down the vehicle. I take it placing a couple O-rings removes the slop and quiets the noise?

Yep. I didnt have o rings so i just cut a sliver of fuel tubing, stretched it out, and it worked fine.

I did mix approx 60/40 of traxxas 100k and 50k shooting for 75k. I didn't make a science out of it.. I just winged it! 5000 cst to me sounds like it would be only 5k but I'm just not sure.

I was kinda wondering the same thing, but what would use 5k diff fluid?

I've heard it being used for race set-ups..to help cornering. But I'd bet with the power of brushless and lipo it's pretty useless.

I ended up going with 100wt. fluid from Traxxas. I haven't ran it just yet (6 inches of snow here) unless you could the 50 feet I have in my basement. So far, it acts better but we'll know for sure once I can really run the thing.
