I hate to be the one to tell you but those 2.4ghz radios aren't link radios. The Traxxas link tx/rx has 'Traxxas link' written on them and the tx has a chrome wheel, not a satin wheel as pictured above. The 2x4 slash just comes with Traxxas simple version of the 2.4 radio.

Im pretty sure the RXs are link, but the transmitters arent. I fell victim to this trick too when i bought a 2X4 slash new from tower.

wow buddy, i did not relise this.... i just went and check and you are so right. the xl-5 slashes come with just the 2.4ghz radio's. I just checked as i am at work right now ( hobby town ) lol so that means those radios will only bind to the reciver that they come with ?

The tx and rx will bind to each other only. What you can do is post the model numbers of the tx (found on back where the crystal would normally go) and the rx.

The RX is a 2218... its a link receiver. The transmitter is not. Theres a guy on the marketplace who JUST sold one of these systems brand new (just like yours) for $50 shipped. I think thats a fair price. The link radios new can sell for $60...

but you can use the reciver in any truck with any link transmiter, you just can not use the actual radio on any reciver.... is that right ? why Traxxas can u not just keep them all the same ?????????? lol
