porting the trx motor will make the biggest difference in performance and power in your traxxas car/truck, next to simply buying a new performance motor. i did mine and the only real advice is take your time doing it, you wont win a prize for getting it done in 1 hour. i took like 1 1/2 days doing mine (well worth it though).

i had been thinking of putting an OS hyper 15 in my maxx but after i ported the motor i decided to keep my ported trx and simply get add ons like a new head from GPM (should be here any day now).

naturally expect to retune the carb after porting but the power increase is, well considerable. my motor fired right up after i ported it just like i had never even opened it up.

Porting an engine is not that hard to do. I like to port and polish an engine after the first or second rebuild is needed.
My advice is to vist your local hobby shop and see if you can get a few junked blocks to pratice on. It does not matter what shape that they are in or what brand. That way you will have a feeling of how a Dremel or simular cutting tool acts with each of the cutting and polishing tools that will be needed. Also you will know if it is something that you want to tackle yourself.
Eric P. and I use the same technic with the TRX Pro.15. Here is the link to his site.
Study the photos and notice the tools that will be needed for the job. Read the entire page and you will see that it is not that hard.

If you decide to port and polish your engine. Take your time. For the rewards are well worth it.
