Anyone out there experiment with any kind of wax's to create less drag on the bottom of your boat? Is there any kind of wax that will damage the plastic? Thanks in advance, Yukon Don

They told us that putting wax on the bottom of our ski boat would slow it down instead of help it
Thanks RC Dude for the information.
It just seems that if a person could create less resistance, it would mean more speed all though I'm sure it would be a small difference. I guess I never thought about it slowing it down. I was thinking of putting some of that "New Finish" (once a year polish) on the bottom, but maybe I'll wait.
the only reason i would put wax on the bottom of my boat is if i were showing it off and wanted it to look nice and smooth. other than that, waxing the bottom is not worth the time or effort.
I know this is an old thread, but ....
The smoother the surface of the hull, the more friction you have. I know it sounds weird, but I am certain. Water skiis have been finished with a smooth but matte finish for over 10 years now because of this.
I actually noted a difference in performance when I SANDED the bottom of my hull. I used fine sandpaper, and did not go overboard on it.
I think I used 600 grit ... don't remember for sure.
Now there is somebody to back me up! Could you really tell a difference in the speed?
it is true that normal wax will slow you down
but you probably will not notice because lets
face it its not going 95, but if you want to
shell out a little money and want to see an
improvment check out speed coat.com they will
gaurentee 3-5 mph increace with no mods,
its an old jet boat trick, but it will cost
you,but its like the old saying how fast can
you aford to go
Wax the whole thing! No, I dont know if your supposed to?? Some things it slows it down...

I am not sure I noticed any major improvements, but I could swear it porpoised less (the bouncing up and down boats sometimes do). It seemed to better in very smooth water on a man made pond thing that is near me. Usually I like to play on a river with big boats around creating some "terrain" for me to have fun with
Did you ever notice how water beads up on a freshly waxed car?,,, Well, it repels water!,,, so, of course it will make your boat faster!,,, I have used this trick for years on my boats, full size or models,,, and it works for me!,,, living near the Ocean & having to paint your boat bottom to keep off marine life, immediately slows it down!,,, but if I trailer my boat, & the bottom is unpainted, I wax it,,,
